Three seats on the Cannon County Board of Education will be up for re-election during the August, 2012 elections and one current board member will not seek a second term.

Cathy Hyatt, who represents District 3 in the Woodland Community, said she will not seek re-election during the Cannon County Board of Education regular meeting Thursday (Jan. 12). The District 1 seat, currently held by Shannon Davenport; and the District 4 seat, currently held by Chairman Randy Gannon, also are up for re-election.

"This has been a very rewarding time, very educational," Hyatt said of her time on the Cannon County Board of Education. "It has shown me what Cannon County has to offer our students and we have many good, positive things happening. I wish the next board member the best, and I will be willing to help in any way I can from the educational point of view."

Hyatt said her reasons for not seeking re-election were of a personal nature.

"It has nothing to do with ill feelings," Hyatt said. "It is all personal with family. I have two teen-agers and two 90 year-old parents. I need to be a mother and a daughter right now."

The first day for citizens to pick up petitions was Jan. 6. As of Friday (Jan. 13), Nathan Sanders (District 1), Bruce Daniel (District 3) and Gannon (District 4) have picked up petitions. No one has qualified or returned their petitions as yet, according to Stan Dobson,  Cannon County Election Commission Administrator.
