Mr. Ray Wesley Compton, 74, of Auburntown passed away on July 24, 2017. He was born on June 21, 1943 in New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Compton and Irene Tompkins Compton.

He is survived by his daughter, Tanya (Wayne) Duke of Murfreesboro; companion, Sue Kentner of Auburntown and many close friends and neighbors including, Faye Lafever, Jimmy Porter, and Diane Crook.

He was the kind of person who loved to help people. He and friends would get together and build a deck, fix a car, or whatever needed to be done. He worked doing many things in his life. He was a mechanic, worked for Paramount Packaging, truck driver, and most recently a farmer. He loved being with his friends and having a good meal. His dogs, Yippy and Scout, were great friends and company for him.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 25, from 4-9 pm and again on Wednesday, July 26, from 10-1 pm. Funeral services will follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel at 1 pm. Diane Crook will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Gideon Bibles.
