Affordable Housing Resources, Inc., a nonprofit serving Middle Tennessee, is the third most effective organization in the nation at preserving homeownership according to a recently released national ranking.

The nonprofit serves 40 Middle Tennessee counties, including Cannon County. For many homeowners across the region, the recession is lingering and Affordable Housing Resources is continuing to provide assistance through a number of programs.

During the 2013 fiscal year (October 2012-September 2013), Affordable Housing Resources saved 496 homes from foreclosure. Affordable Housing Resources’ ranking places it above a number of high-foreclosure regions including Chicago, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

In 2012, Affordable Housing Resources saved 351 homes and ranked seventh nationally.

The 2012 and 2013 reports by NeighborWorks America, a congressionally chartered, nationwide affordable housing and community development nonprofit, rank its 240 member organizations across the nation based on the number of homes each kept out of foreclosure.

“For more than 20 years, Affordable Housing Resources has helped low- and moderate-income families achieve and maintain homeownership,” said Eddie Latimer, CEO of Affordable Housing Resources. “The financial crisis of the last several years presented a significant challenge to homeowners from all backgrounds—a challenge our team knew we could help overcome. We’re extremely pleased that we could leverage a number of programs to keep 496 families in their homes, last year alone.”
The nonprofit Affordable Housing Resources creates affordable housing and strong neighborhoods in 40 Middle Tennessee counties through a range of services, including home preservation and foreclosure services, lending support, and homebuyer education.
Of the 496 families the organization helped stay in their homes in the past year, 50 percent are outside of Nashville-Davidson County. In just over three years, Affordable Housing Resources has saved 2,024 homeowners from foreclosure through the Hardest Hit program and the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program, both in partnership with Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).
THDA administers a number of services and programs in the state that Affordable Housing Resources utilizes for its clients. Information on the assistance provided by Affordable Housing Resources can be found at www.ahrhousing.org or by calling (615) 251-0025.
