Nichols 2011 Reunion Draws Over 100

More than 100 descendents of Daniel and Melissa Vinson Nichols celebrated their heritage at the 2011 Nichols Family Reunion held at The Corner in Pleasant Ridge on Saturday, July 23.

Daniel and Melissa Nichols lived the majority of their married lives on Doolittle were they raised eight children. Many of their Nichols descendents remain in Cannon County while others have migrated across America. States represented at the 2011 Nichols family reunion were Kansas, Michigan, New York, and Tennessee. Those traveling the longest distance were Sara Drue Nichols Zimmer with sons Drew and Canyon Zimmer of Syracuse, New York.

One of the main attractions at any Nichols reunion is the home cooking shared at noon.  The younger generation assisted with ringing the traditional dinner bell to call folks together for prayer led Bobby Nichols, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. Two newly deceased were remembered with reverence. Those individuals were Brenda Nichols Brown who died 8-18-10 and Lytle Earl Fann who passed away on 11-30-10.  

The most-senior adults at the 2011 Nichols reunion were Ray Nichols (84) and his wife Jean (83) of Woodbury. The youngest male present was Luke David Nichols, three month old son of Josh and Jessica Nichols of Michigan. He is the grandson of Daryl and Lori Nichols and the great-grandson of Margaret and the late David Nichols. The youngest female present was Brooklyn Parker, two year old daughter of Nicholas and Emily Parker; granddaughter of Grady and Barbara Nichols Parker of Woodbury.

New births within the Nichols clan were Dylan Wade Nichols born 3-22-11, Taylor Annabelle McPeak born 1-13-11, Luke David Nichols born 4-13-11 and Lasten Jay Nichols born 9-2-10.

Nichols’ cousins for generations to come will continue to enjoy get-to-gathers to celebrate life and their family ties. The standing date for the Nichols Family Reunion is the fourth Saturday in July. Grady and Barbara Parker have hosted the Nichols Family Reunion for the past seven years.
