On Monday April 16th, the Cannon County Jr. Lionettes Softball Team traveled to Rutherford County to take on the Murfreesboro Central Magnet Tigers.

The Lionettes put together a complete package of offense and defense to obtain a decisive road victory.

The Lionettes took the lead 1-0 after the end of the first inning. The score would not change until the 4th inning when Coach Randy Farnsworth would call a series of bunts that caught the Tiger defense off guard.

With runners on base Joie McCrary delivered a bases-clearing hit resulting in an inside the park homerun, igniting the Lionette offense. At the end of the 4th inning the Lionettes held a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Lionettes would add an additional three runs in the 5th inning to complete the scoring.

Kallie McCrary and Konner Duke each added doubles in the strong offensive showing.

Defensively the Lionettes were just as impressive. Pitcher Jessica Elmy notched 8 strikeouts in the victory. Catcher Raquel Nova applied a decisive tag at the plate to prevent Murfreesboro Central from scoring.

The final play of the game saw a ground ball hit to the pitcher who in turn threw to first baseman Hannah Farnsworth to secure the final out, preserving the shutout victory.
