The former executive director of the Cannon County REACH Afterschool Program pled guilty to the charges against her in Cannon County Circuit Court Monday.

Angela D. King entered guilty pleas to one count of Theft Over $10,000 and one count of Theft Over $1,000.

The Theft Over $10,000 charge stems from an investigation the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted in association with the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office of the REACH program.

An audit of the REACH program by the Comptroller’s Office found that King took more than $37,000 in program funds for personal use and made more than $26,000 in additional expenditures that were questionable between July 2008 and November 2010.

King was also indicted this past January by the Cannon County Grand Jury for Theft Of Property and Forgery in an unrelated incident following an investigation by the Woodbury Police Department after she passed a counterfeit check at First National Bank.

King, who has no prior criminal record, is facing a 5-year sentence on the Theft Over $10,000 conviction and a 4-year sentence for the Theft Over $1,000. The suspended sentence will run concurrent.

She, as a first-time offender, has applied for Judicial Diversion. Judge Don Ash scheduled a June 28 hearing.

King, as part of her plea, agreed to pay restitution amounts as shown by the auditors for the loss to the county and the investigation expenses to the county, $62,429.21, and to the restitution amount claimed by First National Bank, $1,350.21.

Judge Ash will determine on June 28 if diversion will be granted and if any of the restitution amounts will be waived, reduced, or suspended based on King’s inability to pay. She must provide proof to the court as do why it should do so.
