Fifth District Commission incumbent Bob Stoetzel has decided to withdraw his name from the 2010 race for re-election to the seat. Citing the following circumstances, Commissioner Stoetzel said:

"My wife and I have bought property in the Second District off of Doolittle Road and although it will be a while before we build our retirement home there it will happen within the next four years. Everything still depends on the sale of the Houston Lane property but we feel the economy is improving.

"Once it does sell we will immediately begin living on our land as there is presently a decent livable house on this property. It is then that the Commission will have to appoint a successor. No doubt it will happen before the end of the 2010-2014 term of office. I don't want to leave it up to them."

"I avidly support the right for the people to elect their own representative, and I don't want to be in the middle of a term and then have the commission select a replacement for me.

"I know all the candidates running for the position and they are friends or acquaintances of mine. I will continue to fight for an open and honest professional board of leaders for the county actively up until the end of my present term ending on August 31, 2010.

"Although I am not recommending to you who to vote for in this August election, I do think that you need an outspoken and aggressive representative, one that could lead and not just follow the crowd. One that would question the norm as I hope I have done. If ways of doing governmental business here in Cannon County does not grow, Cannon County will surely die.”

I thank you for your support and friendship throughout the years."

Sincerely,

Bob Stoetzel, Fifth District Commissioner

Bob I know your heart is with the people of this county. I certainly do agree with you in order for this county to grow we need someone who is going to stand up for the citizens of this county. Someone who is truly agressive and outspoken someone who is not afraid to tell it like it is. for too long we have sat back and let things continue business as usual. Well I'm with you. It is now time to hold people accountiable. If we continue to elect those same individuals who we say are the problems then we have no one to blame but ourselves.. God help us all.

Bob I appreciate the way you are thinking beforehand. I think you have made the right decision to not run due to your impending move. I am also glad to hear you say that the people should have the right to elect their representative instead of it being appointed.

My firm hope is you and your wife will enjoy your new "retirement" home and whoever replaces you will specifically hold Mike Gannon and his group accountable for all of the things done and NOT done for our beautiful county.
