Shane Byford, Woodbury, was charged with reckless endangerment with a firearm on Oct. 15 by Sgt. Greg Moore of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Moore was dispatched to Taylor Women Road in reference to shots being fired and rounds hitting a house. The complainant described hearing shotgun fire outside of his residence around 7:20 p.m. and again about five minutes later.

An hour later the homeowner said he was standing at his door outside on the porch when another shot rang out, this time with the pellets "raining down onto his house." He said he ran inside and told his wife to call 911.

The complainant said he had prior history of Byford shooting rounds at and hitting his house.

Following a search deputies encountered Byford, who was in possession of a Remington shotgun and was carrying four shells in one of his hands.

Byford said he was shooting at coyotes who were after his horses. No horses were observed on the property.

Bond was set at $3,000. Initial court date is Nov. 7.
