Auburntown's biggest event of the year will be held this weekend at C.S. Hawkins Park.
This year's "Red Apple Days Festival" is celebrating its 40th anniversary and organizers are anticipating one of the largest turnouts ever.

Activities will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. as vendors will begin selling food, drinks and merchandise, and the kid's area will open. The Gospel Concert will start at 6.
"We will be having some awesome vendors this year. Some of them include a homemade ice cream guy (he makes it there with a hit-n-miss motor driven ice cream maker.), BBQ, burgers and hot dogs, and fresh-squeezed lemonade is always a hit," said Shaphan Sylvester, Red Apple Days Event coordinator and an Auburntown Volunteer Fire Fighter.

"We will have some homemade jewelry and other craft vendors. A guy that makes wooden toys for kids by hand will be there as well as some ladies that make doll cloths."

Sylvester said in the kids area there will be two bounce houses for the kids to play on for free as well as a playground.

"We will be doing some fun little activities for the kids like three-legged and potato sack races. And some fun activities for grown ups too, like an apple pie eating contest. We are trying to fit as much fun as we can into a day and a half."

Sylvester said the goal is to have a range of activities for the entire family to enjoy.

"Some of the big attractions last year were the dunk tank where people can dunk a fire fighter and the Red Apple Days Pageant, which we have grown this year and has become a preliminary competition with Tennessee Festival Pageants organization, allowing all of our winners to compete on a state and national level.
Saturday's big events include the Lions Club 5k, fish fry, cruise in, pageant and musical performances.
