We NEED to know what is going on in our communities everywhere. If that is what is going on in Cannon County then we need to know it and KNOW that the Sheriff’s Department and the Police Department are on top of things for us. Every paper, the Tennessean, the Daily News Journal and other papers all have the NEWS on the front! When we listen to the news on TV, BREAKING NEWS is first, and all we hear is what we need to be aware of. Our community is small and the paper is showing what is going on around us. That has nothing to do with the Co-editor it is fact, it is the truth and it is where we live....Keep up the good work reporting what we need to know. My daughter and I just commented on some of the puns associated with some of the articles like YOUNG EYES see .....and Spirits good at the Distillery. It is comical and a knack for talent amongst the NEWS that is going on in our community. FACTS ARE FACTS, all the editor is doing is NOT hiding the facts and every article, the police are on top of it for us, we should be commending the newspaper and the Sheriff’s Department and the Police Department for all these solved crimes because there are some out there that are not solved as of yet and the more they solve, the more time they will have to work on the ones that are not. Keep up the good work! I hope there are more YES votes than NO to prove the above!!!

I think the Cannon Courier is doing a great good on reporting what happens in Cannon County. I don't always agree with Kevin Halpern's opinions but everybody has the right to express their opinions. But
I do enjoy his articles and some of the reactions they causes. If you don't like what is beening reported in the Courier why buy it?

I voted No even though I probably disagree with some of the co-editor's positions (on-line comments) more than anyone else.
The Courier has rejuvenated the interest in what is happening the county and it would be a sad day if this county lost that input.

I have often thought the new Courier might very well be the best small town newspaper in the state!

I have felt on a couple occasions that the play on crime was more suited to pages other than the front. One edition featured a cow in a pond, while if memory serves me correctly, the rest (most anyway) of the front page was devoted to crime. There was another edition not to many weeks ago that most of the front page was also dedicated to crime.

This week's issue seem to strike the proper balance for me.

That is not to say that sensational (may be hard to define to some what these would be--like pornography, I know it when I see it) crimes, when they occur in this county, should not be front news and most certainly not relegated to back pages.

I liked the barn with the quilt feature and felt that first impressions of someone entering the community would be favorable if that was what they first laid eyes on.

I don't want the Courier to reduce those crime columns but only suggest most be moved off the front page and let the more pleasing incidents be what the readers first see when they pick up each issue.

I also voted NO even though I think at times the editorials or comments by Kevin are biased and very opinionated. But, so are mine and I guess it is an even trade. I speak for myself when I comment unless I specifically say differently.

The only issue I have is like the song says "when you own the information, you can bend it all you want". I am not suggesting the information is bent, but those of us who comment a lot can attest that depending on the day some comments are allowed and some are not and I am not talking about things that are violating any rules stated by the Courier.

What is news to one is not always news to another. Crime is a part of life and part of our community and should be reported so that people are aware of areas that have higher crime rate than others. Should every time someone is arrested for stealing a candy bar be front page news. I would say no. It would be nicer if we had more stories promoting the good things that happen here vs. the bad things.

Newspapers and on line websites are limited to what news is available. Let's face it, there is not a lot that goes on in Woodbury, so sometimes crime or when the cow got out of the barn is the best we can do. You have to go with what you got.

As far as the polls go, they are what they are. As long as people respect the idea that people have feelings, people have family that read this site and people can be affected by hurtful things people say then vote in the polls and keep the hurtful things to yourself. It always goes back to the Golden Rule when making comments.

NO to the firing. YES to less biased comments. YES to polls and YES to respecting other people's feelings!

I understand the reports of solved crimes but what I'm more interested in are the unsolved ones. I want to know if there is a increase in break-ins near me. That way if someone reads about a theft near them they may remember seeing something that could lead to an arrest.
A online map that shows recent crimes on this site would be nice.
Law enforcement may not be pleased with this due to the ratio of solved to unsolved crimes.

I do think that some discretion should be used. I think it is sad that the man that is making the polls seems to be feeding off the comments and the ability to use his power of free speech and a public forum to cause hurt to someone else.

I think it is pety and says much about his character. But hey, it's yours wear it proudly and smuggly as you seem to do.

I voted NO because facts are facts! I want to know whose involved in crimes in this county because i want to know what's going on if they live next to me! I think the co-editor is doing a fantastic job! I think we have an adequate mix of crime and society columns. If people are opposed to random crime articles, stick them in the back of the paper. I do love to see articles about our schools and all the accomplishments of our children. No-the co- editor does not need to go!

Can a trade be made. Courier trades a co-editor to the Cannon County High School for the head football coach?
Seriously though, Kevin does a great job as well as all the staff of the Courier in delivering the news to the public and no one needs to lose their job at the Courier.
I am the news director at WBRY and I would however like to see some of you that submit regularly to the Courier news items (i.e. school news, community calendar items etc)submit the same to us for announcements on radio, and our website as well.
I invite you to listen to WBRY AM-1540, FM-96.7 after the 9:00 ABC News as I talk about my opinion on the polls and a couple other subjects Thursday morning

I voted NO. The paper is finally interesting. He states his opinion to try to get people involved. I don't have kids in school so I pretty much skip over the school news. Crime in the county affects all of us, I want to know if my neighbors are cooking meth or if their have been any break-ins near my home. Leave Kevin alone, he is doing a good job.

I can't vote but I would vote yes. I personally am getting tired of only crime news. Funny thing is now there is another online news source coming online for cannon county because the courier fails to cover every aspect of the county to make a quick buck.

On the poll, I voted NO. It seems to me that when Kevin writes a news story, it is news and your choice to read it or not. And when he gives his opinion, it is stated as such and you and I have the right to agree or disagree with him in a civil manner.
Mqhq, what is this other news source, when and where will it be available? It seems to me that at one time we had a very good news source in this county, CannonWire.com. It also seems to me that Mrs. Davenport was resisted and rebuked at every turn by some who thought that news was only news if they wanted it to be. The more true news services the better. At least this is my opinion.

I voted NO! You can't fudge the facts! In previous years at the courier, alot of news we as the public needed to know was..... conviently left out. If crime is the news then I want to hear about it, if it's good news I want to know about that too. But I want to hear it ALL, not just some that makes our county look peachy pie! We need a reality report on things and he does that! Keep him and the news coming~

If the co-editor generated this article himself it seems a bit self serving.... The paper should have had another author the article. I don't fault the content of the paper. It seems crime and sports are both what readers want and enjoy. The comments above bear this out. Everyone has a choice to pick up and read anything so we have control of the content we choose to stuff in our heads... I didn't vote because this is like a witch hunt or something. I'll be more interested in a poll when another party writes an article on the merits of the co-editor. There is nothing wrong in my humble opinion with the paper itself.

I know people want to know what's going on in their town, but all the crime reports are a bad imagine, they are right in your face when you open the sight

I voted no! I like the fact that everything is printed in the paper. I feel, as citizens of Cannon County, we have the right to know the good and the bad. So what if he prints the crime. That is the world we live in! That is whats wrong with the world to begin with-everyone wants things 'politically correct' and 'sugar-coated'! If you don't want to read the bad, turn the page! The only thing I would really like to see is more stories on our young men and women that are deployed in the war and whats going on with them. I think that would be a really good thing and I think we owe them at least that much! I say, Keep up the good work, Kevin!
