A local mother who punished her child with a paddle received a spanking herself in Cannon County Circuit Court Thursday.

Carla M. Monick pled guilty to attempted aggravated child abuse. She received a 10 year partially suspended sentence as a standard Range 1, 30 percent offender, was ordered to serve 6 months in the Cannon County Jail, and will then be on placed on state supervised probation for 10 years.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of $200, assessed court costs, and must attend an anger management course.

She was arrested on March 23 following an investigation conducted by the Woodbury Police Department of an incident which occurred on March 14. She struck her 8-year-old son with a wooden paddle 6 times, causing severe bruising on both sides of his buttocks. She then allowed a person living with her to also paddle the child.

Has the other person, that spanked this child, been charged? I would think so, sice this child was already bruised from the first spanking.

One can only hope that the judge here was using good judgement. It did say there was severe bruising, and so for that I tend to go with the Judge on this one. Child abuse should not be tolerated!
