Mrs. Dorothy (McBroom) Barker, 91, died July 12, 2011. She was a life long resident of Readyville. She was born on March 13, 1920. Her parents were the late Charles Glen McBroom and Mary Louise (Kittrell) McBroom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Don Barker, Sr., a daughter, Kitty Adams, a brother, Col. Robert McBroom and a sister, Inez Puckett.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Don & Dean Barker of Readyville, Charles Lawrence "Larry" & Jo Ann Barker of Jonesboro, Arkansas; son-in-law, Fred Adams; brother, Pat McBroom of Oneida; grandchildren, Libby & Trevor Sledge, Mary Ellen & Matt Smith, Melissa & Johnny Kincaid, Laurie & Greg Lemley, Joseph Barker, Michael & Heidi Barker & Amanda Barker; great grandchildren, Mitch Kincaid, Evan Kincaid and Jacob Sledge.

Mrs. Barker was the longest standing member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbury. Having 77 years of membership and was a member of the choir. She was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1937. She was a partner in Hawkins Flowers from 1956 to 1959. She served as the Readyville Postmaster from 1960 until 1986 and was active in the State & National Association of U.S. Postmasters.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 from 4 PM until 8 PM at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Woodbury on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10 AM. Bobby Zumbro and Hunter Hay will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Woodbury or to Caris Healthcare by contacting Smith Funeral Home. (615)563-5337

Don and Dean, sorry to hear about your mother/mother-in-law. I know she was a "fixture" in Readyville for years, particularly her stint of 26 years as Postmistress. Our condolences to you and your family.
