Two men who were allegedly attempting to introduce drugs into the Cannon County Jail were apprehended by a Woodbury police officer on June 11.

Patrolman John Fesmire stopped the two defendants, Ernest Brian Osment and Marlin Christopher Prater, less than a mile from the jail on Doolittle Road.

Osment stated the two were headed to the jail. Patrolman Fesmire found in their possession a bag containing several white pills identified as a prescription-only drug. The bag containing the drugs was found wrapped in a bag of tobacco dropped from Osment’s vehicle during a traffic stop.

Osment, of 667 Will Daniel Rd., Woodbury, and Prater, of 261 Rains Ridge Rd., Woodbury, were each charged with possession of a Legend drug and conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.

Total bond for both defendants was set at $6,000. Each is scheduled to make their initial court appearance on July 26.

The sheriff does have a no tobacco product policy for inmates at the jail. However, it is not illegal for adults to possess tobacco. It is illegal for adults to possess prescription drugs without a prescription, wherever they are. It is also illegal to attempt to introduce said drugs into the jail.

That question is off the topic of this article. You should check with the heads of the various county departments who have county-owned vehicles at their disposal for use by either themselves or the employees under their supervision to find out what their tobacco policies are.

Mr. Tenpenny,
If you can do a better job then run for sheriff next election. It is always easier to tell someone how to fix things instead of taking mattters into your own hands and help sovle the problems.
