Lion Academy Alternative School, under the direction of Arlin Hale and Sharan Loux, got together with Cannon County High School students and staff and raised enough money to have memorial stones purchased and the Gardens and Gazebo redone as a beautification project.

"These students in Lion Academy need more than sitting in a room, they need to be out working on a project that will give them self-worth and that they can see the fruits of their labor, so we started on a project at the High School that needed much repair which was the Gazebo and Gardens at the top entrance of the high school.  We are hoping that this will be first of many to give these students a feeling of accomplishment and to feel better about themselves," said Sharan Loux.

The Gazebo and gardens were in need of much maintenance and we want to thank all who helped make this possible, Loux said.

"We want to thank  Smith Funeral Home for helping with the expenses of the stones and doing  a beautiful job making  and engraving the quotes and names on each stone, and Joyce Taylor at CCHS for ordering the stones and collecting donations."

The Rock Quarry on John Bragg Highway under owner Jason Wells, donated over two tons of stone.  Jason was more than kind enough to donate all the rock to this beautification project  to make the sitting area larger.

"We wanted the Gardens to look nice and had three stones done for three students who recently passed away."

Lion Academy, under the direction of Hale and Loux, worked on this project for nearly three months until finally it was finished.

"The students whose stones were put down were Brian Kite, Megan Wilmoth and Brittany Hale, all who are very much missed," said Hale and Loux.

Donations were also given by Phillip Reed of Ace Hardware who donated landscaping materials, Weed Killer donated by CCHS, a new Flag for the pole donated by Marilyn Bloodworth, supplies and tools to do the work by Arlin Hale of Lion Academy, Gary Loux, Loux Investigations donated the lumber to have the bridge re-done and Ed Coates, Carpentry Teacher at CCHS donated nails and labor to help with the project.

To the students of Lion Academy Alternative School, we are truly proud of everything you accomplished in making this possible. You saw it through from start to finish! We want to thank everyone who helped on this project because in  some small way helps the students to cope with the loss of their fellow classmates who are deeply missed.  We are hoping this will be one of many beautification projects that Lion Academy Alternative School Students will be able to do to help them feel good about themselves by helping clean up and beautify different places in the community.

This was a wonderful project to be completed! Thanks to Justin Thomas and Ronnie Ragan and Austin Smith especially since he was one of the ones who came up with the idea to do this and for all the hard work we heard they put into it including the ones who helped with donations in our wonderful community! We know there were others who helped but these needed to be commended for really putting for such an extra effort to make sure it was done before school was out. We hope that there will be another project for these students to do to be able to help them and encourage them, which has NEVER been done before. We hope this kind of project is done every year to help these students. The smiles on their faces, even though the thought of these students passing, says it all. Everyone should drive by and see this! It is really amazing!
