The director of Cannon County's program to help victims of domestic violence has been recognized by a national organization.

The Women's Peacepower Foundation has named Lisa Baird as a recipient of the "Woman of Peace Award" for 2010.

"When no resources were available for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, Lisa took it upon herself to change that. Lisa, single-handily, works extremely hard to run the only domestic violence and sexual assault agency in her county. Her tireless efforts have helped many in her community," the foundation said in bestowing the award on Baird.

The certificate presented to Baird states:

Woman of Peace Award

For all the time you've spent thinking, dreaming, planning and creating ways to make your world a better place to live. For all the times you thought you were just an everyday, ordinary person, but somehow you pushed beyond what you had been told you could accomplish. For all the times you have spoken up for what you believe in. For the financial risks you have taken. For the inner courage you manage to rely on even when you don't think you have any courage. For keeping a sense of humor, even when things looked bad. For bringing hope to us all because of your committment.

The Women's Peacepower Foundation, Inc. Declares

LISA BAIRD

Lisa, what you are doing is to be commended. We are all behind you 100 percent! We need more Domestic Violence help in this county. It goes on more than any of us realize and you are there fighting fearlessly to help battered men, women and children!!!

The S.A.V.E. Program needs support more than we all know. Please everyone, donate to this worthwhile program and help every woman, man and child who might be suffering from this and have some support and somewhere to go! Thank you Lisa!!! ( You should do an article regularly in the cannon courier regarding what you need, what is going on with the program, who is helping you with the program and donations you might need! Just a suggestion!!!
