Beef producers throughout the County enjoyed steak sandwiches during Beef Night of the Cannon County Farm Family School. The session was sponsored by the Cannon County Cattlemen's Association. Kevin Ferguson, MANAGE Agent with The University of Tennessee Extension highlighted specific genetic disorders found in beef beefs. Attending producers viewed examples of genetic abnormities such as Ideopathic Epilepsey (IE), Pulmonary Hypoplasia with Anasarca (PHA), Tibial Hemilmeli (TH), Hypotrichosis (Hairlessness), and Congenital contractural arachnodactyly ('fawn calf syndrome'). Information provided during Beef Night will assist producers in selecting herd sires which are free of these traits.
