Cannon County Sheriff's deputies recently investigated a number of incidents involving stolen or damaged trucks.

• Sgt. Anthony Young was dispatched to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department on Nov. 22. Upon arrival he spoke with Willie Brown, who stated that on Nov. 21 or early in the morning of Nov. 22 someone had vandalized his truck, a 1997 Chevy Sonoma, and his house.

Brown said someone had keyed or scratched the paint job on his vehicle and had written markings on his house with some type of liquid. On the front of the residence they wrote "Can You See George Washington Yet."

Brown said he did not know anyone who would have cause to damage his vehicle and home. He estimated total damage to be around $900.

• Deputy Brandon Mims investigated a report of a stolen truck on Nov. 21. He was dispatched to 2364 Geedsville Rd., where he spoke with Glenn Dodd, who told him that he heard his truck start and then drive down the driveway. He said the suspects had to push start the truck. Dodd told Deputy Mims the truck was not locked. Deputy Steve McMillen later notified Mims the truck had been found abandoned. The investigation continues.

• Deputy McMillen was dispatched to 1155 Simpson Rd. on Nov. 21 for a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival he spoke with Linda Moore, who stated that her son, Barry Bucey, was going to use the truck that morning. She said Bucey went outside and put the keys in the truck, along with his wallet. He then went back inside for a moment. When Bucey went back outside, the truck was gone.

A neighbor told Deputy McMillen he saw the truck, a 1992 customized Chevy, in the driveway moments before it was taken.

After taking the report, Deputy McMillen contacted dispatch and had a BOLO sent out on the vehicle.

Later that day, Deputy McMillen was dispatched to Jim Town Rd., in the area of the spring, in reference to the stolen Chevy. Upon arrival, he observed a blue and purple Chevy truck matching the description of the one reported stolen, and a check of the tag number showed it was owned by Linda Moore.

Deputy McMillen observed the truck had been backed into a roadbed and become stuck on a stump. It also appeared as though the person driving the truck tried to free the vehicle from the stump, and in the process spun the tire off the left rear wheel. Deputy McMillen also observed that the front and rear bumpers of the truck had sustained damage.

Deputy McMillen called Pelham's Wrecker Service to the scene to tow the truck. The keys were still in the ignition. However, the wallet belonging to Bucey was not recovered.

Did the cops notice that the two incidents were down the road from one another? Come on, it looks like the thief is in one area doing this

I think people should lock.
