Republican supporters were excited as results from Tuesday’s election continued to bear good news for them in Cannon County.

Cannon County voters favored Republican candidates across the board in Tuesday's State General Election.

Bill Haslam, Diane Black, Mae Beavers and Mark Pody all swept to victory in the county and in their overall races.

Local voters supported Republican Bill Haslam in the Tennessee governor's race, taking the spot currently held by Phil Bredesen, who by law could not seek a third term. Haslam beat out closest challenger Mike McWherter by a 2412 to 1415 margin in Cannon County. Haslam also won the race statewide, with McWherter conceding shortly after the polls closed.

Cannon County also supported Republican Diane Black as the successor to Bart Gordon as Tennessee 6th District Congressman. Gordon decided not to run for re-election after holding the seat since 1984. Black won over Democrat Brett Carter by an almost 2 to 1 margin district-wide. In Cannon County, Black won 2369 to 1197.

In the Tennessee House of Representatives 46th District Race, Republican Mark Pody defeated incumbent Democrat Stratton Bone 1909 to 1838 in Cannon County.  Pody also beat Bone district-wide 9095 to 8069.

Republican incumbent 17th District State Senator Mae Beavers captured the Cannon County vote over Democrat George McDonald 2206 to 1544. Beavers also won district-wide 35747 to 21332.

When this Republican control is established I will be eager to see the results in the next few years...

I'd better not hear about how it's someone else's fault should things not go well.

Make it work or get out of the way next election.

ya were lucky 30 years we be looking at jimmy carter again.glad we stopped it early

With the Senate still in Democrat hands and the veto power still in Obama's, the next two years will be interesting but not too fruitful in addressing the serious problems facing the nation.
But at least we won't be seeing Angle using those 2md Amendment Rights resolving the problems in D.C. and O'Donnell will have to practice her witchcraft at home.

But look on the brighter side, perhaps Black along with Alexander and Corker can get more of that leftover stimulus money in the hands of Beaver so she can take credit for getting into Cannon County.

Gosh dailyreader, are you having a bad day already? Eyes a little RED this morning? May I suggest a warm cup of TEA to soothe your nerves?

The only way to soothe the nerves of His Majesty King Liberal the III Dailyreader is to give him a cup of Pelosi on the rocks with a side order of Obamacare.

Jeff: Your point is well made.

I too hope control of the House of Representatives stops the big government, spend out of control, forcing laws we don't want that make things worse down the throats of the American people stops.

However, I don't think you will ever stop the blame game from either side. Democrats will blame Bush despite the fact they have been in complete control for the last four years and the Republicans will blame Obama despite the fact they have an opprotunity to
work to make things better.

If we learned anything last night, it is not that the American people chose the Republican party as thier favorite, it is that the American people chose to vote against the Democratic party and the policies of the Obama administration.

If the Democrats don't recognize that and the Republicans choose to forget it, then unfortunately we are destined for gridlock.

Thank you Stratton Bone for many years of great representation. You have been very involved with the youth of the county in 4-H and the schools. I hope Mr. Pody will be the same. Mr. Bone you have always been reachable by phone and very willing to listen and help out anytime you could. Your office has always been open for the students and residents to visit. Thanks for a job well done.

The Democrats have had their chance the last four years to make things better. Now, let's see what the republicans can do. If they fail as miserably as the Dems have, then, we should all vote to give both parties the boot next time.
November 03, 2010 at 9:09am
With registered democrats out numbering republicans by approximately 3 to 2 and at best estimating 1 independent or unaffiliated voter to those 5 party affiliated voters proves several things to me:

the democrats with a few swing voters can elect a democrat but it takes the votes of republican and democrats to elect republicans,

the democrats won the unaffiliated voters to elect Obama and lost them ALL, plus some, in 2 short years,

with both parties trend to move more to the extremes and farther from the middle, the opportunity now more than ever before exist for a moderate and objective party to not only exist but thrive and become a middle ground for many voters to find balance.

Many candidates I supported won yesterday and some lost but I wish them all the best and hope we can support them all. Drawing lines in the sand, which I fear we are going to do, will only make our situation worst.

Bad day didn't even begin to describe it--but did have that soothing peppermint tea--helps the stomach immensely.

Good news for Cannon County---no, not another grant, but the McRib is back for six weeks. Only 26 grams of fat but almost as good as those Martha White biscuits Flatt and Scruggs used to say "Goodness Gracious they're Good."

dailyreader... please share some of that peppermint tea with dmm49. Maybe it can help wash the taste of sour grapes away.
I agree that Tennessee incurred some losses last night. Some were a surprise and I might could even use a small dose of that tea myself. The impending tidal wave was even more pronounced than most Independents were prepared for. Still, the people have spoken. We should look now for the progressed promised us by ALL newly elected candidates and hope them equally (Dem. and Repub.) accountable and responsible for the job they do. That had much to do with the current administration in that they refused to listen to the American people. We did not want the bail-outs, the so-called stimulus packages, the healthcare plan. Unfortunately, our elected officials were intent upon ramming it down the throats of the American people. I must seriously think they received the message last evening that government still belongs to the people. If that message was not conveyed and received in the way it was intended, then we will have two more years of arguing, frustration, lack of progress and we will again have the chance to change all the players again in two years.

Here is a quote that is timely:

"the outline the details of the Boehner's GOP plan to cut that bad old deficit---

their program is still this: Tax cuts will save the economy AND pay for themselves, unless they don't, in which case, as Dick Cheney said, "deficits don't matter," unless Democrats are in charge, in which case they are the only thing that matters. AND if you remove the regulations that are hamstringing the Atlases in the financial industry, THEN you will get a robust economy, unless what you get instead is the economic collapse of 2008, which is what we actually DID get, and now we have come all the way around the mulberry bush once again. The George W. Mulberry Bush. The voters have spoken. They have gone back to Casablanca, for the waters. Perhaps they were misinformed, again."

LOL dmm49 where have you been?

Other than the Governor, the State of Tennessee has been controlled by the Republicans for the last few years. You have had a Republican (Mae Beavers) as a state representative for several years now and our state and county has voted Republican in the last three Presidential races.

And just to be clear, since the Republicans never gave you anything I would ask that you give back your portion of the tax cuts enacted under a Republican Congress that are due to expire in January unless our current Congress decides to extend them.

If you are a person of a different color other than white, I would also ask that you give up your right to vote as enacted by a Republican Congress in a little thing called the 15th ammendment.

Please also refrain from using any bridges or roads when you travel because the Transportation Act was enacted by the Republican controlled Congress.

Finally, just in case you are a woman and you voted on Tuesday, you have that right due to a fine Republican named Harry T. Burn who was a member of the Tennessee General Assembly in 1919.

Harry's was the final vote to break a tie that gave all women across the nation the right to vote on a a pesky thing called the 19th ammendment that was vehemently opposed by your all perfect Democratic party.

Republicans are not perfect by no means and have helped to enact some disatrous laws over the years. However, we could take a walk back through history and talk about many things the Democrats have been responsible for as well anytime you would like.

So now you've resorted to quoting political cartoonists at the Washington Post dailyreader? Next thing we know you'll be supporting John Stewart for president.

November 04, 2010 at 7:21am
Kevin you should know by now that dailyreader researches obscure quotes on liberal websites to comment on subjects that generally make no sense at all.

He is in his own liberal world, with his own liberal agenda, believing in his own liberal ideas while the rest of America decided they would live in reality and not the fantasy world he lives in.

I can't wait for his next incoherent response that rambles out of his mind onto the page somewhere in mid-sentence on a subject that probably doesn't even pertain to the article he is writing about.

Good Morning World! Now that the elections are over, let's pull together, move on, and get about the business of living in the greatest country on earth. Yes, I mean the United States. Where else in this world can we enjoy the freedoms we currently share? It is great that our electoral system isn't so broken that we, the American people, cannot bring about corrective measures when we see our ship sailing toward disaster. We have embarked upon a new course and until the results are seen from such a correction, discontent becomes merely disgruntled babble. If those we have elected also carry us astray, then we can correct again in two more years. Unfortunately such deep rooted perspectives color the glasses one looks through and prejudges such events. Until we can break the political chains that hold us captive (I am what I am because my grand-daddy was such and such), we will never become the free citizen our founding fathers had envisioned us becoming.

It is ashame that a party can pander so much to an unsuspecting people as to incurre as many wins as they received Tuesday night. It won't be long now till they louse up our economy even worse than they have and start shoving their idealist right wing conservative agenda down our throats.

November 04, 2010 at 9:05am
Yes jenn that is true about shoving an agenda down our throats.

The American people have suffered from that very problem for the last four years and especially the last two years under a Democratic rule. (Health Care, Cap & Trade, Bailouts, etc. etc.)

If I were you I would complain about it for the next two years like we have been doing for the last four. It really helps and makes things lots better.

November 04, 2010 at 9:24am
jenn, the only thing I can say is, bless your heart. I hope that you can find a place to live where the government will take care of you. Try Greece, Germany, France, or Denmark. Of course they have been doing what the liberal leaders of our country are trying to do and are now bankrupt. You will notice that I said liberal, not Democrat or Republican. We have to return to our conservative values if we want to survive.

Mr Halpern: Guilty of plagerism from the morning's Post. Thought someone might get a laugh from it.

We will see the House introduce and try to get passed bills from banning citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants, banning same sex marriages, to a repeal of the healthcare act--(maybe even following Oklahoma's lead on Muslums)--legislation to bolster their cause for the 2012---lot of talk about earmarks, cutting spending--can't wait to see what happens when the next spending bill must wend its way thru congress--maybe another shut down then--nothing of major substance addressing the nation's problems will get to Obama.

All about 2012 and getting rid of Obamba. Ted's dead so nothing can be done there.

Wish I had the concession stand furnishing Boehner his tanning lotion and hair spray--will be lots of TV hours for him.

Mr. Halpern--I also confess I am a great fan of Stewart and Colbert--after an hour of Fox News in the evening, I listen to both and sip my peppermint tea.

I am sure this morning was not the first instance of plagerism you have spread on this site dailyreader and I doubt it will be the last.

We can only hope as you said that Health Care will be repealed, we continue to believe in the sanctity of marriage between a MAN and a WOMAN and not allow you liberals to force the minority into your anti-God beliefs and finally to curb spending since your party has no concept of what that means.

And seeing the "hairsprayed and tan" Boehner will be a welcome change from seeing goofy "plastic surgery" Pelosi every day.

And I am pretty sure it is purple kool-aid you are drinking and not peppermint tea.

doolittlerd77 --- What you said about past Republican control of Tennessee is only partly true --- for one --- Kent Williams, who sold out Jason Mumpower to become speaker of the House with the help of all the Democrats, appointed a mix of Democrats and Republicans as House committee chairs. I for one experienced Democratic Curtis of Sparta tabling legislation that was important to me that rubbed against the grain of a Democratically control regulatory board. The Senate side of the bill was sponsored by Mae Beavers --- On the Senate side it breezed through --- on the house side democratic Curtis killed the bill all by himself -- I suspect it was killed with the approval of my friend Stratton Bone. ------- With full Republican control of the house and a new House Speaker --- I doubt if you are going to see Democratic committee chairs. Also Most of the Regulatory Boards that control every thing from real estate licenses to police officers have been appointed by Phil Bredesen. We will continue to suffer from these Bredesen appointees until Gov. Haslem is able to appoint replacements as the old Democrat terms expire. ---- While I still think the world of Stratton ---- I am looking forward to another try at the legislation with Republicans truly in control.

"Plagiarism" correct spelling, sorry--also since I mentioned what I was posting was a "Quote" and no attempt on my part to take credit for it, I change my plea to not guilty.

Usually people reference the source of the quote. Unless someone believes that source may be seen by others as less than credible or knowledgeable, or has a tendency to demonstrate a particular bias on a regular basis, like a Sean Hannity or Chris Matthews. Perhaps even a dailyreader (avowed liberal) or Kevin Halpern (avowed small government fiscal conservative).
