Cannon County students will have to pay for any more days off due to weather for the remainder of the current school year.

Today (Tuesday) marks the 11th day off this calendar year due to snow. If, as it appears may be the case, classes are also canceled Wednesday -- or any other day this year -- it will come at a price for students.

So far every day out of school due to inclement weather has been a "free" day off because a certain number of days were built into this year's school calendar in anticipation of winter weather-related outages.

UPDATE: Late this afternoon, school was canceled for Wednesday.

"We only banked 11 snow days this year," Director of Schools Barbara Parker said. "So after today, any days off due to bad weather will have to be made up."

Parker said the procedure to make up days will be to use other days in the calendar for student days that normally would have been break days or to add days to the calendar.

"The (School) Board will have to decide on this," Parker said.

Cannon County received 2.5 inches of snow Monday according to the National Weather Service office in Nashville.

The forecast for the next week calls for a warming trend starting Wednesday during the day, but rain and flurries and cold temperatures are expected during overnight hours.

well, I think that adding 30 min to their school day would be better than taken away their off days...
