"MoveOn.org worker reportedly received concussion from attack at event for Rand Paul. As media outlets have reported, a MoveOn.org worker who attempted to approach Paul at an October 26 rally in Lexington, Kentucky was attacked, apparently by Paul supporters. The woman was thrown to the ground and then stepped on, causing her head to be smashed into the pavement. According to MoveOn.org, the victim was diagnosed with a concussion at a local hospital."

Suppose we have those voting indicate which party they identify themselves with--wonder how that would come down?

I voted no!

Postscript to my earlier note.

With this poll the Courier may be touching on something very meaningful in understanding what is going on in our schools.
Some yes votes were probably checked facetiously, an expression of the dismay and frustration by the voters of what we are seeing in DC, but is it possible behind some of those "yes" votes is a home life that could foster a young person to engage in some of the bullying we see in our schools?

The Courier had some excellent features on bullying and thanks for putting up this poll. (I believe Mr. Gibbs and others made some very good points also)

dailyreader, I think you are too hung up on the lead in to the question and not the question itself. "Different views on politics" occur in Woodbury and Cannon County as much as they do in D.C. And while one can have the "urge" to do something without actually doing it.
October 28, 2010 at 9:08am
You are correct, one can have urges to do something but moral restraints and other factors keep that urge in check.

Question, can someone do something bad--rape, rob, kill, beat up and assault someone without having that "urge"--a force or impulse that moves one to action?

Mr. Halpern, I don't mean to be argumentive, please don't take my comments so, even though some may appear to be at times and even cynical at times. Inquistive- yes, interested in human behaviour under stressful conditions--yes. And this election period has been the most contentious period I have witnessed since the Viet Nam days and I can understand much of the anger present since we have seen little improvement in economic conditions during the past two years--even though we have poured billions of dollars into the system.

And thank you for the opportunity to respectfully express one's opinion.

Feeling the urge is diffrent from acting on the urge, but if you feel nothing at all you really don't care enough to have an opinion for yourself and this is the real problem today. 11/2 is coming do something!

If this trend conitune this could lead us to having our second civil war. Nobody has the right to put another person down and then this clown put his foot on her head or any other person head .give him 1 year in jail and put a felony on him take his right to vote away from him. He might get message you're not suppose to do this,it might stick or if it don't it could take another 6 month but he will get it, if it doesn't work then put him the cell with those sex offenders he will get the point. and to do this to a woman is bad bad bad

Kicking them would not help. Everyone has an opinion. That's why there are democrats and republicans. You state your view and move on.

35% --interesting percentage, let's extrapolate that number to some small county in Tennessee, say with a population of 10,000.
We have 3,500 who have "felt the urge to kick some sense" into someone with different political views.
Let's also note that 6,500 have not felt that "urge."

Scenario: Fred and Wilma Flintstone, daily in front of their children, rant and rave, denouncing those who favor a women's right to choose. Fred calling them murderers who snuff the live out of the unborn. Wilma not to be outdone, shouts out invectives about those people who want to allow same sex marriages to a bunch of.....who want to take prayer and Bibles away from our children, nothing more than a bunch of atheists, anti-God, non-religious, anti-Christians.....who want to turn our county into a San Francisco, a regular Sodom and Gomorrah. Both expressing that "urge" to kick some sense into those people, this in in front of their children.

Now look at the children of those who picket the funerals of our men and women who died in service to our country. What do they hear at the kitchen table daily? Did they pick up that on their own?

Point being, expose children to this "kick some sense into opposition" nonsense, and some, not all, but some may translate that exposure into bullying behavior towards those in school who may be different sexually or may have learning or physical disabilities.

While I am sure, here in the Buckle of the Bible Belt (eight churches in city alone), none of the 35% who voted above would act in such a manner to show that "urge" in front of young impressionable chidren who might just carry that "urge" one step further.

And I am equally as sure there is not any correlation between those numbers and any bullying or harassment in our local schools.

dailyreader, I am convinced more than ever that you will go to any "extreme" in an attempt to make a point, whatever it may be. I'll do the same as an example — were I to write a column saying that all sports activities at county schools should be ended because they cost too much and are not really a part of the educational process, I think those poll numbers would quickly reverse.

About 2000 years ago a wise rabbi is said to have climbed a hill and delivered a sermon, saying something like, "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

The same principle can be applied here. If you feel the urge to stomp on someone's head, you need as much help as the guy who actually does it.

If you truly love and respect your neighbors, you will never have the urge to cause them harm.

dailyreader is a troublemaker. He lives to start controversy. He lives to promote a liberal, anti-God society who lives off of the government because everyone is "entitled" to everything.

He doesn't live in our community, vote in our community, work in our community or pay taxes in our community.

His sole purpose is to divide our citizens and promote anger and mistrust. Anyone who reads his comments should know that he is an instigator and should disregard his idiocy as nothing but trash.

Kyle:

The "wise rabbi" you refer to was Jesus Christ and he did climb the hill and make a sermon on the mount. Even though it was not during that sermon that he said it, what you refer to is something He did say about all of the laws we ever read about in Bible.

Matthew 23:37-40
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

In other words every other law was fullfilled if you followed those two.

I agree with you in that if you truly love your neighbor you would not want to do them harm, however we are all human and we have all fallen short of the glory of God.

Bad thoughts do run through our minds, it is impossible to keep them from it. It is not impossible to keep from acting on them.

I believe sincerely in 1 Corinthians 10:13 which says "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

We all just need to look for the escape.

I use to believe dailyreader was most radical opinion poster but do77 you take the prize.

Sad thing is he turned you into what you despised, corrupted you and changed you.

please don't quote scripture and end it in" in other words"
October 30, 2010 at 5:20am
Rachel: Madam, I thank you and I assure you I had no part in that "turning."

Rachel let me simply say that neither yours nor dailyreaders opinion of me matters to me in the least.

I have my opinion of both of you, but out of respect to everyone who reads the Courier website I will keep that to myself.

It does not surprise me that you or dailyreader would call quoting scripture "radical". It would not surprise me that either of you have a hard time understanding logic.

Both you and he are two peas in a pod by your own admission and words because you both believe that everyone is entitled to everything no matter what the cost or outcome and then you both want to envoke individual "rights" to religion and political matters when it benefits your own warped sense of reality.

There are a lot of (as you call me)"radical" people like myself who believe the same and I dare say November 2nd will prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

You are more than welcome to express your opinion and believe what you believe at anytime on this site because I know you live here, you pay taxes here and despite our differences I believe you have the best interests of Cannon County in mind when you comment. That much about you I do respect.

I do not believe that about dailyreader.

He has proven time and again his sole motivation is to cause division among the people that he cares absolutely nothing about.

If you can't see that, then you you need to ask yourself what is his motivation to complain about and offer no solutions when it comes to matters involving Woodbury and not Murfreesboro where he actually lives?
October 31, 2010 at 5:22am
Mr Halpern: My point is a valid point. A child being reared where someone is expressing that "urge" to "kick some sense" into those with different opinions is influenced by that home life.

Sorry I did such a poor job in getting that point across.

Dear do77: I support dailyreader's participation here. As far as I know, this forum is not limited to residents of Cannon County. He has been respectful in his comments, and we can all learn from his example. Let's all lighten up a little and not take ourselves too seriously, OK?

To correct a detail: The passage I quoted is from the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5:27-28).
