Republicans Cite Need To Repair Economy, Reclaim Government From Elites

America is more than a country.

America is an idea – an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government’s powers are derived from the consent of the governed, that each of us is endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. America is the belief that any man or woman can – given economic, political, and religious liberty – advance themselves, their families, and the common good.

America is an inspiration to those who yearn to be free and have the ability and the dignity to determine their own destiny.

Whenever the agenda of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to institute a new governing agenda and set a different course.

These first principles were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, enshrined in the Constitution, and have endured through hard sacrifice and commitment by generations of Americans.

In a self-governing society, the only bulwark against the power of the state is the consent of the governed, and regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent.

An unchecked executive, a compliant legislature, and an overreaching judiciary have combined to thwart the will of the people and overturn their votes and their values, striking down longstanding laws and institutions and scorning the deepest beliefs of the American people.

An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Rising joblessness, crushing debt, and a polarizing political environment are fraying the bonds among our people and blurring our sense of national purpose.

Like free peoples of the past, our citizens refuse to accommodate a government that believes it can replace the will of the people with its own. The American people are speaking out, demanding that we realign our country’s compass with its founding principles and apply those principles to solve our common problems for the common good.

The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated.

With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America.

We pledge to honor the Constitution as constructed by its framers and honor the original intent of those precepts that have been consistently ignored – particularly the Tenth Amendment, which grants that all powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

We pledge to advance policies that promote greater liberty, wider opportunity, a robust defense, and national economic prosperity.

We pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values.

We pledge to make government more transparent in its actions, careful in its stewardship, and honest in its dealings.

We pledge to uphold the purpose and promise of a better America, knowing that to whom much is given, much is expected and that the blessings of our liberty buoy the hopes of mankind.

We make this pledge bearing true faith and allegiance to the people we represent, and we invite fellow citizens and patriots to join us in forming a new governing agenda for America.

I pledge to never vote Democratic for moral reasons alone.

Never mind thier idiotic, spend until you die, even though we don't have any money left mantra.

fool n \fr. L. bellows, bag\ 1: a person who lacks sense or judgement 2: one who pledges there vote (earned in the blood of others) to a " political agenda" before they know who the candidate is, what he stands for or what situations face us on election day.

I spend a lot of time condemning those who don't vote, then I hear the decision rational used by some voters and then I realize: no wonder we are in the shape we are in!

Ever thought about how the change thing is working out? Let's see...house values changed, unemployment changed, 401K and stock market changed, looks like health care is soon to change...AllI have left is change in my pockets and they'll take that too in time

As Boehner(R-OH) said: We’re not going to be any different than what we’ve been.”
Bush all over again or as Jon Stewart said “Its not even a sequel, it’s a shot by shot remake.”
The promise to listen to the people means they will be “listen to” those who run the party–Wall Street bankers, oil companies, insurance companies , healthcare companies and the CEOs of large companies–GOP’s mainstays.
The Tenthers or as someone said “the constitutional lunatics now in charge of the GOP asylum”, reminds one of the nullifers prior to the Civil War or more recently the Dixicrats of the late forties and fifties and even into the sixties.
Since retirement income and healthcare insurance is not enumerated in the 10th then it is unconstitutional for the federal government to assert that right–that also goes for immigration, unemployment benefits and the use of the National Guard.
Wonder why that pledge did not contain "Under God" ---nothing but window dressing for the masses.

Would appear as though each party has special interest supporters, with the Democrats coming out ahead.

@doolittlerd77 Very well said. Indeed .... one day each will give an account... a full account to God Almighty. That truth alone should vacate the Democratic party immediately. The Liberal agenda Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Barney Franks, Chris Dodd are selling to the American public is pitiful to say the least. What's worse though, is the number of foolish people standing in line to buy it! Any yes, many Republicans, especially the "RINO" varieties share the blame.

Sad thing though..... the very next Sunday church service ...after the "twinkling of an eye", there will be many pretenders still sitting the pew listening to their (many) pastors, wondering why a few folks are missing??

We need more honest and sincere conservative leaders on BOTH sides of the isles in the our Halls of Congress!

One of the biggest divisions between conservatives and liberals now is not "smart vs dumb" or "best vs worst". It truly boils down to "creation vs evolution" or "eternal world view vs party hearty for tomorrow we die foolishness. These vast differences cannot be reconciled with "middle ground" achieved by watering down truth, but by each desiring to stand upon "hallowed ground" and honoring the very "Giver of Life"

Elections won't solve all our Nation's problems, but electing men and women who place our Lord Jesus and His enduring Truth above all else, will more likely gain the guiding and providing hand of God than the Liberal's plan and goals of advancing or promoting the very things God calls abominations..... gay agenda, abortion, deficit spending etc.

The democrats plan to normalize, legitimize, embrace and force upon our Nation's Military the gay agenda is sickening. Since this alone would be a significant change in the "contract" our service men and women sign when entering the branches of service. Each contract should become null and void when this change occurs. Those wishing to leave the Military can walk away. When the mass exodus causes a shortage of Troops in Combat zones, each abomination supporting politician and judge should be forced to put on the uniform and be mobilized into these combat roles immediately. Call it a fools draft!

As far as the pledge goes, I too think it was nothing more than window dressing. It was a useless waste of time. Almost as useless as the Democratic House and Senate we currently have. Almost as useless as the President we have in office now. Almost, but not quite.

I ask these questions to dailyreader and all other Democrats:

How do you explain a party who says the Constitution makes it legal for a woman to have an abortion because the government does not have a right to tell her what to do with her body and then turns around and says the government does have the right to impose a monentary penalty upon a citizen who does not have Health Care?

How is it that killing an unborn child is a choice, but killing a convicted murderer who rapes and brutally murders a child is cruel and inhumane?

I would bet that over 75% of the people who marched on Washington in the late 1960's and 1970's protesting the Vietnam War calling our American soldiers "baby killers" were Democrats.

Does it strike you odd and hypocrtical that those same people are now the ones who are PRO CHOICE? The same people who called our Heroes who fought for our country "baby killers" are now the very ones who promote killing babies!

Is it not evident that the Democratic party is morally against what the Holy scripture teaches?

How anyone could vote for a party that represents such unethical, immoral and anti-God sentiments is beyond me.

I will concede that the Republican party does not always get it right. I will concede there are some ideas from the Democratic party that are better than the Republican ideas. I will concede there are some Democrats who are better people than the Republicans.

I can lay my politics aside. I can lay aside all my beliefs about both parties and how they run our government. I can lay aside all pledges and my dislike for Obama and all the other liberal Democrats.

But, I cannot lay aside my belief that if you call yourself a Christian and bow your head and pray to the living God above and turn around and vote for a party that is anti-God, pro-abortion, promotes same-sex marriage that you are not in danger of Hell.

How will you answer the Almighty on the day of your judgement when he asks you why did you vote for a candidate who made laws to kill innocent babies? How will you answer when he asks you why you voted for a candidate who promoted same-sex marriage? How will you answer when you are asked why you voted for a candidate who made laws to protect the criminal instead of protecting the weak and defenseless?

How can you morally justify those things?

The Vietnam War was a travesty as was the was the war in Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children killed and maimed.
The wars were based on outright lies and mistrutrhs--two presidents and their cohorts in crimes should have had to answer for the loss of the lives of our men and women in the service.
I protested against both wars and continue to speak out on the wanton wasteful disregard for the lives of our troops.

Abortion is legal--get over it. I respect a woman's right to choose what to do with that unborn fetus--nothing more and nothing less.

The last thing this nation needs is a fundamentist Christian in the White House preaching daily about a six day creation of the earth and raging out against those who want to join together in a civil ceremony even if they are the same sex, and spewing forth their ugly bigotry in their protests against some who have different sexual makeup and against those who believe that a woman should be able to make a decision relative to that impregnation.
God save our country from such self righteousness.

Here is a cut and paste which seems to lead one to believe that the "Pledge" without "God" in it ,is the same "shot for shot" of what we have heard before.

"Last night, the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart offered proof of this “self-reflection” in a video comparing quotes from Contract With America-era Republicans with Republicans at yesterday’s press conference. The compilation spans more than a decade and shows an almost identical repetition of the old Republican talking points:

REP. PETER ROSKAM (R-IL): Reign in the Washington, DC red tape.. [9/23/10]

FORMER REP. DENNIS HASTERT (R-IL): Cut Washington red tape.. [1/3/01]

REP. JEB HANSERLING (R-TX): Act immediately to reduce spending.. [9/23/10]

FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER NEWT GINGRICH (R-GA): Have real reforms to reduce spending.. [6/5/98]

REP. JASON CHAFFETZ (R-UT): Change the way we do business in Washington..[9/23/10]

REP. JIM NUSSLE (R-IA): Change business as usual in Washington..[11/19/94]

ROSKAM: Make the tax cuts permanent.. [9/23/10]

FORMER MAJORITY LEADER DICK ARMEY (R-TX): Make the existing tax cuts permanent [9/15/02]

REP. BILL CASSIDY (R-LA): ..health savings accounts that puts the patient firmly in control…[9/23/10]

HASTERT: Health savings accounts which will give families more control.. [8/30/04]

HANSERLING: Reduce the size of our government..[9/23/10]

GINGRICH: ..reducing the size of government.. [9/18/03]

BOEHNER: A smaller, less costly, and more accountable government in our nation’s capital. [9/23/10]

BOEHNER: A smaller, less costly, and more accountable government in Washington. [4/3/98]"

The reason the Republicans have to repeat things is because whenever the Democrats get in power they always make the same mistakes. If Republicans are saying the same things as they did in 1994, and gain the majority in Congress, this country -- and Obama if re-elected -- can look forward to at least six years or economic prosperity. It worked that way for Clinton.

I notice dailyreader that you didn't answer any of my questions. Simply because you can't!

I also noticed you listen to the most liberal, left-winged politcial show you can find and then complain when I quote facts (not fiction like yourself) from Fox News.

I also notice that when it comes down to it and push comes to serve you can't justify the laws and beliefs your party represents that are contrary to each other.

You are nothing more than a hypocrite just like your other loyal Democrats who believe in blindly following the party.

I won't "get over" abortion as you say because it is wrong. You can try to justify taking the life of an unborn child, but you can't.

Also you need to get your facts straight, the Vietnam War started under Kennedy. So that makes THREE different Presidents and not two.

And regardless of the obvious fact you are an Aethist and your want your anti-God beliefs spread through out the world, this country does need a "fundamentist Christian in the White House preaching daily".

You and your liberal loving, anti-God, pro abortion, murderer loving sentiments are the very reason this country has declined over the past fifty years.

September 25, 2010 at 3:19pm
"obvious fact you are an Aethist" and "You and your liberal loving, anti-God, pro abortion, murderer loving sentiments are the very reason this country has declined over the past fifty years."

A little sicking diatribe ---more indicative of the writer's mentally then anything else.

Also reflects exacting what we are seeing thruout this nation--uncontrolled raging anger at anyone who is different then they are, particularly if they express that difference openly.
Bush tried to paint all who opposed the Iraq War as everything from traitors to unpatriotic dissenters.
And now those who have liberal tendencies are being called murderers, non-believers, anti-God and worse.

You know nothing about me or how I conduct my life.

September 25, 2010 at 4:53pm
I may know nothing of you or how you conduct your life that is true, but I do know what I read that you write.

That in itself proves exactly what I am saying.

And once again, you dodge the questions because you have no answers.

You are like all other liberals in that you have no answer except to blame George Bush for everything you think is wrong despite the fact your party was in complete control for the last two years of his Presidency.

You can try to beat that dead horse all you want just like the rest of your Obamanites friends, but it just isn't working any more.

And just to be clear, the only thing I am angry about is the idea behind turning this country into a Socialistic form of government instead of the Republic that it started out being.

You can believe all you want in those liberalistic ideas that everyone should have everything no matter the cost, murder is acceptable when you call it choice, but not when you put a punishment to the crime. Or that spending more money than you have coming in is "an ok thing to do".

Or that the government can force Americans to accept health care or penalizing them if they don't is ok, but that same government has no right to tell people that same sex marriage is immoral.

You can believe it is ok to force people to take God out of everything in their lives because we might offend someone, but we should all understand that it is freedom of religion that forces us to accept a Mosque being built two blocks from the spot where one of the biggest tragedies in American history happened.

You can believe all of that and call me whatever you want, I believe you said my comments were "A little sicking diatribe ---more indicative of the writer's mentally then anything else".

Call me mental all you want, but from the looks of it you and your beliefs are the ones who are a few bricks shy of a load.

dolittle, the dems controlled both houses the last 2 years of Bush, but he held the the veto pen and promised to use it on anything they tried to push through that he oposed. If you rember so well. For your, and others info, liberal is not the name of a political party in this country. The Democratic as well as the Republician party is made up of people with various personal believes. One of mine is our political leaders elected to make laws to govern and run our local, state and national governments, and keep regilion out of it.

With the majority in both the House and the Senate the last two years of Bush's Presidency and with the majority for the first two years of Obama's Presidency, the Democrats had the power to over ride the veto.

And with Obama as President for the last two years there has been no need for veto. So your argument doesn't wash on the veto.

And, the last two years the economy has gotten worse, not better under Democratic control. The debt has gotten bigger and unemployement is at a high that hasn't been seen since Carter was in office.

And no, there is no party with the actual name "liberal", however if you believe what the Democrats believe, if you promote what the Democrate promote and if you pass laws like the Democrats pass, then you are a liberal.

There is nothing conservative in the Democratic party unless it benefits them.

The Bush tax cuts were put in place some 9 years ago and yet jobs were lost and continue to be lost today. The consumer cannot purchase from companies without being employed. So no noe is hiring. I have been unemployed for over a year and because of my age was unable to obtain employment. Large companies dropped thousands from their businesses and sent much of it oversears. Call Center customer service for AT&T, Discover, and Citi Bank, just to name a few, and you will talk to someone in India. Ask to talk to a supervisor and you will be told they are all in America. Why reward the wealthy so they can take home millions for a bonus and pay little taxes. The wealthy have all the loop holes to evade taxes. The first place Congress and the Senate look funding is to cut SSI when seniors are now forced to pay more co-pays and take supplemental insurances. As we have seen from the last election, voters were promised anything and upon winning the election little is delivered on those promises. I, like many voters wish to send all in office home and elect a new Congress and Senate. President Obama will not be trusted if he chooses to run in 2012, because he has failed to keep many promises made on the campaign trail. Sara Palin is not the answer either, she cannot be taken seriously and should stick with the comedy routine she has perfected. We need new blood, not another Bridge to Nowhere. Stop the spending on pet projects and become more conservative in spending. Both parties are out of control and think they speak for the people when they have ignored the will of the people. Fear breeds chaos and I for one do not trust my government to do the "Right Thing."
September 27, 2010 at 9:42am
ew--this nation needs leaders from both parties to address Defense spending, Social Security and Medicare.
All know the need, but all want to be reelected and know if they take a stand, voters won't return them to their profitable employments.. The voters, if interested in controlling costs, should insist their elected representatives sit down together with the opposite party and agree on ways to control.
Defense--no one wants to cut that unneeded bomber out of the budget--too many jobs will be lost but we already have the means necessary to reduce any nation to rubble.
Everyone is afraid to be truthful to seniors--if the program continues to viable then something needs to be done.
Medicare--elected officials are afraid to cross insurance companies and the medical community and seniors and address the issue fully and find common ground.
Look at earmarks from both parties--neither will control and what would happen if up or down votes on the issue along were to be the mode of passing a bill?
Maybe, just maybe, there will be those who are willing to risk reelection to step across the aisle and resolve a numger of issues.
But it won't be soon with the anger and discontent we now have.

If the Bush tax cuts are so bad for the econmoy then why is your President promoting their defense?

Surely you can't be that blind to think that allowing those tax cuts to expire is a good thing during this economy.

To allow the tax cuts to expire means people pay more taxes out of their already short income, during a time when they need the money the most.

The tax cuts do not cause unemployment to rise, they lower it! When businesses have more money in their pockets, they invest back into their business. When the business grows, the need for more employees is automatic.

And if you or any other Democrat understood the basic principal of "stop spending" then we wouldn't be in the mess we are currently in.

You CAN NOT spend more than you take in. It is a strategy and belief that is doomed for failure.

You and the majority of the Democrats just can't understand basic general business you should have learned in High School.

Less taxes, less spending, less government. That is your solution to 90% of the problems we face.

The United States government should always be a resource to the American people, but NEVER, EVER should they ride the American people on thier backs to the point they forget how to walk.

And yes dailyreader, I agree with your comments where you said: "Atheist, anti-God, murderer, along wuth moronic, idiotic, ignorant"--Your Honor, I rest my case!".

I don't think you could have described the Democratic beliefs and ideals any better. Well said! One of the first things I have 100% agreed with you on.
September 28, 2010 at 6:33am
A good many newspapers carried an article ths AM on what group is more knowledgeable about religion. Here is how it begins:

If you want to know about God, you might want to talk to an atheist.
Heresy? Perhaps. But a survey that measured Americans' knowledge of religion found that atheists and agnostics knew more, on average, than followers of most major faiths. In fact, the gaps in knowledge among some of the faithful may give new meaning to the term "blind faith."

Could it be that this “blind faith” carries over into how much knowledge some of the far right, maybe so called “Tea Party” members, know about how government functions and the need for such moronic, idiotic and ignorant programs like taxation.
No taxes, then no government, no government????

Couple quotes for your morning read:
Franklin Delano Roosevelt -- “Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society.” And Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. -- “I like to pay taxes. With them I buy civilization."

September 28, 2010 at 6:52am
Taxation is not a program, it is a system. Many people, I'd say non-believers as well as believers, believe the current tax system is flawed. Many also believe many of the programs for spending tax dollars are either flawed or unnecessary. I do not get the impression that TEA Party devotees believe in no government or taxation. I do believe that most Democrats believe higher taxes and more spending will solve our government's current and future economic dilemmas, whereas most Republicans believe the opposite is true. Most Democrats also believe that government is the engine which powers our country's economy, whereas most Republican believe it is business.
September 28, 2010 at 9:21am
Courier "Taxation is not a program, it is a system."
Sorry about that. I was using my 1951 Webster's New Collegiate --Program: "A plan or procedure"--I meant to use the word as a way to obtain momey to fund the operations of a government.
Did not mean to mislead you.
