News from the Mountain

By CAROL GUNTER

Our county is quite a mess these days and this didn't happen overnight. Too many administrations be it Republican or Democratic ones have failed to take charge of doing what was best for America. Instead they have been keeping up and doing for the rest of the world and neglected our country in my opinion. A news bulletin for us all, the rest of the world doesn't care what happens to the good ole USA just as long as they get a handout and no strings attached to that handout. Sort of blunt but we need to take care of America first and then, if possible, we should help others that are truly in need.

If that's not bad enough, we've got people here protesting that don't even know what they are protesting about. Maybe they just wanted to get out of the kitchen or the den and be seen on national TV. Don't really want to know what their problems are but I think I've narrowed them down to what a few might be. Maybe a dog, cat, or a horse was abused and they are probably ready to fight teeth and nail to the better end over it. More attention by far garnered for animal cruelty than the killing of human babies by abortion that is going on each and everyday. Maybe a fish or craw daddy gonna suffer over progress and be extinct before you know it. Well, we may be extinct before they are.

Have any of us got down and humbled ourselves before God for Him to help us preserve our country for future generations and asked God to keep this hand upon out nation and to stand strong in the face of the enemy that wants to destroy us? Where is God you may ask? Well, He's right where He's always been. He gives us free will and you would think since we know that, we would get our heads back on straight and fly right at some point in time. Those protesters looting, burning and destroying anything in their path I heard on TV not gonna be prosecuted, but how police officers handled all the protesting will be investigated. Give those policemen a break. They were put in harm's way and did the best they could do. Ignorance abounding here at every level of the so called intelligent people I believe. If you or I, for example, acted in this uncivilized manner, better believe they would dig a hole six feet deep under that jail-house and make sure that would be our permanent dwelling till the Lord comes back or if Iran or North Korea surprises us with a nuclear attack. If that did happen, I am sure Israel (God's chosen people) would be the only one coming to our defense. God has got to be sickened and ashamed of the way people are carrying on here as I am and I would think a lot of you are, too. One day this will all be over and God will clean house. There'll be nothing or anyone that can stop His judgment on mankind. If I was a betting person. I would win that bet hands down. Glad most Americans conduct themselves in a decent and respectful manner no matter the disappointments that may come their way especially with the whole world watching.

We do have some people to be praying for: the family of Steve Stanley, Edith Miller, Charlie Mai Daniel, Carlon and Mai Nell Melton, Donna Lawson and Denise Stanton.

Visited with Jackie at Glenda's sore (DeKalb Market) on Sunday. She's doing well. Aubrey nicknamed her Yankee, because she's from up North.

Valentine's Day, February 14th will be here very shortly. Don't wind up in the doghouse. Get your sweetie pie a gift, flowers and maybe a box of those chocolates that are such a delicacy to devour.

You think more about life and death, when you lose a loved one don't you? January 23rd 2017 my brother in law Steve Stanley passed away. He was married to my older sister Lucy that preceded him in death February 13, 2014 soon to be three years since her leaving us. Steve's funeral Thursday, January 26th 2017. A cold wind blowing as I was standing there in the cemetery by Steve's grave next to Lucy's and so many reflections were coming to my mind of all those years gone by and the many happenings in Steve and Lucy's life they lived while they were here.

Ups and downs for sure as all married couples have, but a love for each other always endured the trials of life that tried to separate them. Just like Aubrey, Steve wanted to come home but neither one could overcome the health problems that eventually they succumbed to.
I say all this for you to let your loved ones know they are loved and treasured each and everyday you are lucky enough to still have them. Never take them for granted for tomorrow they may not be here for you to talk to, because in life there are no guarantees.
