News from the Mountain

By CAROL GUNTER

The Short Mountain Community extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Carl Allan "Floyd" Young age 38. He passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016. Funeral Services were held Thursday July 14th in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Brother Hunter Hay officiating. Floyd was laid to rest in the Blues Hill Cemetery.

Aubrey told me of one episolde of Floyd helping him out. There may have been others but I remember Aubrey telling me he had been at Short Mountain Market one hot summer day and had mentioned he was in a bind while talking to Floyd about getting tires broke down and mounted on his trailer at his shop so he could move some equipment and get back to work. Floyd said he would be there in a few minutes to help Aubrey. True to his word, Floyd came and helped Aubrey get back on the road and back to work. Floyd wouldn't take a penny for helping Aubrey out of a jam.

Please keep these people in prayer: the family of Carl Allan Floyd Young, Carlie Mai Daniel, Carlon and Maie Nell Melton, Donna Lawson, Ruth Brown, Fay Pitts and Denise Stanton.

August 2, 2016 will be here before we know it. Our Aubrey/Big John left us five years ago on August 2, 2011. People have told me with time the hurt in your broken heart eases up somewhat for that loved one who left you and you start living a somewhat normal life. Hasn't happened that way for me as everyday he's on my mind and the hurt and tears are still there as if it were only yesterday and I had to let him go. My greatest consolation is knowing that Aubrey is in the presence of Jesus and he's just fine. I also know that as that song goes "Someday We'll Be Together and Never to be Separated Again".

Our oldest daughter Carolyn wrote this letter of appreciation to her dad at Christmas 1997. If you knew Aubrey, then you know what an extraordinary man he was - a man like no other -- If you didn't know him, well, you should have as he was as I've said before, "bigger than life" to me. Next to Jesus, Aubrey was the best thing to happen to this girl.

To my Dad ... In Appreciation:

There is an appreciatioin, That I am unable to express with mere words; An appreciation so true; It's one you may never have truly heard. Everything I am today, in someway is a simple reflection of you. The truths I know today, are ones I believe you already knew.
For all the times, you got up at the crack of dawn; For all the miles, you've traveled and the people you've known.
For everytime you went even though you wanted to rest, For everytime you settled for less so that I could have the best.
For every time you started that truck, or dozer, or pan. For every time you worked all night with only your tools, you mind and hands.
For every bitter winter wind and every scorching summer day; You worked and did your best to make an honest man's pay. Thank you comes to mind. But somehow falls short of what need to be expressed for Everything I am - I owe to you.
I learned from you and through you I have been blessed. Your determination, your talent, The kindness in your heart. I carry with me every day. Even though you and I are miles apart. When people see the intelligence, fairness, honesty in me I smile and am so proud because in my heart I know it's really you they see.
So Dad, for all thos times you thought I wasn't listening and in frustration turned away, I hope you hear in these words.
That I trusted and valued everything you took the time to say.
I love You Dad!
Carolyn
