News from the Mountain

By CAROL GUNTER

Most wonderful season of the year upon us now celebrating our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ's Birthday. Do hope all your get-togethers with family and friends are great.

Winter not officially starting until December 21st, but I believe it's been here for quite a spell already. Absolutely do not like the winter time but have to put up with all the cold temperatures anyway that nearly freeze me to death. All I want to do is hibernate like the bears do. Give me spring and summer temperatures and I'm quite content as in being a happy little camper.

Ruth/the boss is doing okay as I talked to her the other day. Shirley/the trooper and Peggy/the diva, her sisters, are doing well also. Jack Parsley, their brother, came up from Georgia to spend a few days with Ruth last week.
Haven't seen any turkeys or deer for weeks now. Odd this time of the year not to see them. Can see one or two turkeys up at the store but they are not the feathered kind, and I'm not naming any names. I'll just let your mind wonder in any direction as to who they may be. Hope the little green men aren't involved in this. What if they have terrorized the deer and turkeys into hiding (better them than me is all I can say) or they might have added deer to their menu with the turkeys on Thanksgiving. These little green fellas supposedly have been here for several decades so there are a lot of unanswered questions floating around about their existence here. Hope there is an abundance of deer and turkeys to keep them happy and full if that is what they are having for their meals. I'm not parting with my tuna and crackers for anyone much less the little green men. I'm stocked up for the winter and I'm not in a sharing mood.

Last night on the PBS station they were playing the rock and roll classics from the sixties again. I think they said in 1967 a postage stamp was a nickel and gas was $0.33 a gallon. My how times have changed. That era was a whole lot of fun for Aubrey and me. Your teenage years usually are when you are so young and you think you're not ever going to be old. When you do get old you wonder just how did all those years slip by without you really knowing it. Several years ago Aubrey and I had come home from the funeral home and Aubrey remarked just how old some of the people there we knew looked. I had to laugh and told him they probably thought the same about us. Maybe Aubrey didn't think he had aged but I sure knew I had. It was a funny moment, one of many, I had with Aubrey. Quite a guy - no one like him.

Some regulars up at the store here lately were John Hobbs, John Henry Parker, and of course, Ronald, and Burley Bogle and all were having a fun time as usual. Nothing taken too seriously as no one would believe what they had just heard really happened anyway unless it was confirmed by an authoritative figure. Maybe we're just too redneck and laid back you reckon.

Please keep these people uplifted in prayer: Lou Davis Higgins (she is doing some better), Edith Miller, Jeff Brown, Carlon and Mai Nell Melton, and Denise Stanton, and the Glen Nokes family.

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with they children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, for ever.
