News from the Mountain

By CAROL GUNTER

Once again our community is saddened by the passing of one of our own - Linda Fay-Barrett Taylor age 71. She passed away at her home on Saturday, November 15th. She owned and operated Blues Hill Market. Funeral services for Linda were Tuesday, November 18th, in the chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Mitchell officiating. She was laid to rest in the Blues Hill Cemetery. Please do keep Linda's family in prayer.

Mr. Jimmy Cantrell age 72 passed away Sunday, November 16th, at NHC in Smithville after an extended illness. He was a brother to Joann (Dorris) Campbell and Danny Cantrell of our community. Do keep the Cantrell family in your prayers as well in the loss of their dear loved one.

By the time you get this column again, I will be hoping your Thanksgiving Day was truly a great one and a lot of beautiful memories were made and they are now stored up in your mind to be remembered always. I just know you didn't eat too much. Me either, if you can believe that, and if you do, I probably could sell you the Brooklyn Bridge for $1.50 on most any day. Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful day, indeed. Everyday we should give thanks to God for everything that has been given to us. Quite appropriate for this day to be designated as a day we can thank God for being in our lives to provide for us all that we need. Never do I overlook the importance of this day and I do so look forward each and every year for this festive day to get here as I would hope everyone would. God is always at the forefront of my mind when Thanksgiving Day finally gets here. Since everyone's life is so busy these days and some family members and friends might not be able to come, be glad of the ones that can be there and have some fun and cherish the time spent together.

Need to finish what I started with those moles or maybe something else messing up our back yard big time. As I told you mom would take the hoe and dig themole out of there and kill him. Moles have never been this close to our house before. Just been thinking is it really moles or could it be those little green aliens setting up camp underground right under my nose? Crazier things than this have happened you know in some places and I'm afraid this might get ugly before it's over with. Have always been told to be careful of your surroundings and in my mind I'm beginning to think I may be being surrounded by the outer space aliens as I am cautiously anticipating going out there in our back yard and if this is moles as I think it is (or rather hoping it is) I will do as Mom did with that hoe and be praying it's not an alien I drag out of there.

Aubrey told me a funny deer story years ago. It seems that this guy had killed a deer and had it in the back of his pickup and I believe this happened in Manchester. The guy and a friend with him had to stop for a red light and the guy driving was looking back through the rear view mirror and that deer was standing up in the back of the truck very much alive. Can you possibly imagine the shock this guy had of seeing that deer in the back of his truck like that? Well, the passenger got out of the truck and in all that traffic that was around shot that deer once again as so many were watching and some naturally in disbelief others laughing uncontrollably to what they were seeing. Goes to show all of you hunters make sure that deer is really graveyard dead before you put him in the back of your truck.

Let's keep some people in our prayers: Edith Miller, Lou Davis Higgins, Jeff Brown, the Billy Chumbley family, Denise Stanton, and Carlon and Mai Nell Melton.

Saturday, November 22nd turned out to be one more beautiful day as I attended a baby shower for Brad and Kim Hall at the home of A.J. and Brenda Neal. The shower hosted by Brenda and Gail Neal. Simply this shower was great from beginning to end and organized quite splendidly. My goodness I didn't know a whole bunch of the people there, but everyone so very cordial and we all enjoyed the festivities. Plenty of delicious platters of food and punch and other drinks and you can't beat that. Remarked to someone Brad and Kim won't have to get anything for their baby boy until a few years down the line. I guess they could open a store will all the clothes and accessories they received. Their baby boy will be named Austin James Hall and be called A.J. for short. How appropriate my thoughts were on this. You kids - I wish the very best on your new arrival around the 10th of February. Do treasure what God is giving you to love and cherish. I know you will. Love you, Carol.

Have to let you know about Hunter Underwood getting his first deer - a six-pointer today. Lynn, his dad, and Hunter came down to show me the deer and I was so happy for him. For those that love hunting, this surely would make a hunter's day start off just right for sure. Congratulations, Hunter, you did good!

My dear friend Sherry Gannon visiting with me a while on Tuesday with birthday and Christmas gifts. To my surprise in one bag I pulled out what I thought was a frog - but no it was a "little stuffed green man." Sort of startled me at first as I quickly pitched it down on the table as Sherry was laughing at my reaction to it. After all that though the little green man has become a permanent fixture here for me. Had to take it up to the store for Debby to see. She liked him too. Ronald eating his lunch and wasn't excited about the little green men like we were. This little green man I can tolerate - it's just the real ones that I might come in contact with someday that I can't bear the thought of.

Bobby Taylor back to his old self as he says I should get a ticket for the way I parked my monster truck at the store the other day. Said I should have had my tires straight and not sort of turned to the right. He's been drinking too much Diet Dr. Pepper I do believe (that's my favorite drink, too) or just hasn't got anything else to do with his time. Bobby also says the little green men, the pink pigs, that invisible cow, and the pink elephants will have to park across the road the night of Clyde and my birthday party. I told him they had not been invited so he had better clean up this mess quickly that he has created.
