Tuesday, October 7, 2014 1:52 pm By CAROL GUNTER Today is Monday, September 29th, and this month is just about over as we will be ushering in October on Wednesday. Had a delightful time at birthday party/cookout on Saturday, September 27th at the home of Wilma Sue Barrett. Katie Underwood was the honoree at this gathering as she turned "Sweet 16" on Thursday, September 25th. She received many gifts and cash for her birthday. A beautiful birthday cake and plenty of good food to have you rubbing your belly afterwards. Quite a memorable evening for all of us in attendance as there were a lot of people there. Please keep in prayer: Jeff Brown, Denise Stanton, Edith Miller, Carlon and Mai Nell Melton, Donna Lawson, Chloe Evelyn Bogle, and Bobby Taylor. Friday evening down at my homeplace decided that if ever a mailbox needed a makeover it was the one there. Really had to work feverishly and give it what mom would have called a hit, lick, and a promise as the traffic was zipping on by at unbelievable speeds while I was attempting to take everything off the box and then paint it black - my favorite color. The saying about feeling the brush of angel wings was not what I was feeling as it was more like a close call with the touch of metal a few inches away from me a few times. These vehicles not slowing down and they couldn't have missed seeing such a big object as me I was thinking and what was worse not moving over to the other lane as no one was coming toward them. Hoping none of them were thinking about maybe 50 or 100 points to get me was going through my mind. Asked my brother isn't there a move over law on the books when someone is trying to do a fantastic job to improve the looks of a mailbox and possibly the environment I guess, too, without having to worry about the on coming traffic mowing you down in the process? Definitely doing some praying during this time working on the mailbox. It turned out to be what I thought was the best their mailbox has ever looked. Had to pat myself of the back as sometimes you just have to do that sort of thing if no one else brags on the job you have just done. Felt so good about their mailbox that I came home and redid our mailbox and it simply looks great, too. I have a couple of little hummers still hanging around and I sort of guess they didn't get the office memo that it was time for them to take flight to a warmer climate before the colder weather gets here. Told them it was time for them to leave as I had enjoyed them immensely being here and would look forward for their return in the spring and, of course, have the feeders out to welcome them as I know they seem to always be hungry, and after their long journey getting back they naturally would be so thirsty. Talking with Ruth/the boss on Monday evening. Jack and Ann Parsley and their granddaughter McKenzie came up for a few days stay with Ruth last Thursday. On Sunday they all visited Shirley/the trooper Ruth and Jack's sister in Kentucky. They all had a delightful time. Shirley was feeling really good and so glad to see them. Peggy/the diva doing okay, too. I talked with Kathy Carpenter at Walmart in Smithville on Sunday after church. She is Betty Gunter's daughter and a jewel. Seems like we always get to see each other at Walmart. I love talking to her and love all of her family. Her and husband John loved the Gunter Reunion. This is verse 3 of Wayne Gunter's poem, "Our Heavenly Home": Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
