News from the Mountain
Staff By CAROL GUNTER I don't know about you but having my cups of coffee with the creamer of a morning makes my day seem to get off a whole lot better. The aroma of the coffee brewing smells so good and inviting especially on cool mornings. Here it is the weekend again and it is really supposed to be a hot and sweltering two days with thunderstorms late Sunday with some maybe being severe. Last Wednesday night it was like a monsoon around here with all the rain we got. I'm believing we got another 5 inches again at least. Up and down weather pattern going on as next week temperatures cooling down once again for the third time to the eighties for highs. So peculiar the weather has been for the month of July. Saw Michael "Moose" Nokes and Carolyn Tramel at Walmart in Smithville last week. Good to chat with them for a few minutes. Most likely you will see someone there you know. Talking with Alene Ferrell Friday night. Her and Melvin doing okay. She was telling about the Ferrell Reunion at Hilton Ferrell's residence last Sunday and the great turnout. The event was organized by Wheeler's daughters, Dorothy and Susie. Melvin and Alene, Dorris, James, and Ricky got to attend and had a great time. Horseshoe pitching and other games enjoyed, stories galore being told of years past and just a fabulous time being together with family members. Good food and a good time had by all. Please keep in prayer Donna Lawson, Denise Stanton, Edith Miller, and Carlon and Mai Nell Melton. Lou Davis Higgins doing good as I talked to her Friday evening. Always such a joy for me to talk to her. Quite a lady! Over at Aubrey's shop I have this problem with wasps as one has already stung me and I've got to get rid of them before the reunion. I did not know they had sentries on duty to thwart off intruders like me, but I was here before they came along, so they've got to go as I have squatter's rights on the premises. Funny happening years ago as Aubrey and his dad were coming in from work one night and as best I can recall it was somewhere around the vicinity of Auburntown. It seems that a lot of marijuana had been found and the law was burning it as Aubrey and his dad came upon the scene. Aubrey said quite a few people were standing around and seemed to be enjoying the aroma in the air that was drifting in their direction. He was amused as he knew some of them. They didn't tarry there too long as they wanted to be able to get home safe and sound. Neighbors Lynn, Brenda, Katie, and Hunter Underwood visited with me awhile on Wednesday. We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not know what to do, but we do not give up the hope of living. We are persecuted, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed… So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day. We are small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that is much greater than the troubles. We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see…
