New IDB Chairman Thrilled By Enthusiasm

Randall Reid was beaming with enthusiasm this morning as he breakfasted at Joe's Place.

Reid, the new chairman of the Cannon County Industrial Development Board, is as excited as he's ever been about the direction of the organization and its goal of bringing new business and industry to Cannon County, and helping those which are already here expand and prosper.

Reid was selected as Chairman of the reorganized IDB after the Cannon County Commission named seven persons to serve on the body Tuesday night. They held their first meeting immediately following their appointments.

Reid is the longest-serving member on the IDB, having been on its for eight years.

"I don't think you could have a finer group of people," Reid said, "The enthusiasm in that (meeting) room Tuesday was amazing. Ideas were flowing from every direction."

Also named to the IDB were Doug Bodary, who will serve as Vice Chairman; Mindy Gunter, Treasurer; Corey Davenport, secretary and Neal Appelbaum, Dean More and David Vance.

"The group has diverse backgrounds and experience and that will help in bringing a lot of different ideas to the table for consideration, Reid said.

The IDB will hold monthly meetings and make every effort to keep the public, the county commission and the county executive informed of its activities, Reid said. A regular date and time for meetings has not yet been determined.

Reid said one of the orders of business at its next meeting will be to develop a mission statement, to establish a clear outline of its goals, objectives and priorities.

The new chairman also said establishing a local office and a web site will likely also be considered at the next meeting.

The new IDB members will serve in six-year increments. Two will serve for two years and then be rotated off; two will serve for four years and then be rotated off and three will be on for the six year rotation. After that anyone who is appointed will serve for six years.

The number of people named to the board, seven, is the minimum required under its charter. Four are needed for a quorum. The Cannon County IDB was chartered in 1966.

The primary mission of the Industrial Development Board is promoting, developing and assisting in the planned growth of Cannon County's business and industrial community. It is a not-for-profit, public corporation.
