Nearly $10,000 In (Mostly) Jewel Heist Reported

The Cannon County Sheriff's Department is investigating an apparent burglary which occurred on Dec. 21 during which thousands of dollars in items were taken.

Sgt. Anthony Young of the CCSD was dispatched to a residence on Short Mountain Road to take the complaint. Upon arrival he spoke with the complainant, who told him that someone had broken into her residence between the approximate hours of 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The complainant stated that she did not know of anyone who would have broken into her residence, but added she did see a white SUV type vehicle across the road from her residence when she left.

Sgt. Young and Detective Matt Goney processed the crime scene. Sgt. Young took photographs and Detective Goney dusted items for fingerprints. Detective Goney was able to lift one latent print from a china dish in the downstairs bedroom of the residence.

The whole residence was in a state of disarray, Sgt. Young noted in his report. It appeared as if someone had taken their time and looked through all of the cabinets and drawers in the residence, searching for items to take.

Several items of value were taken. Most of it consisted of jewelry.

Four guns were also taken from the residence — two .22 caliber rifles, a 12 gauge shotgun with a bent barrel and one very old .32 caliber pistol in a leather holster.

Sgt. Young labeled the latent print and turned it in as evidence to be sent to the crime lab to be identified.

According to the incident report, total value of the items taken is estimated at nearly $10,000.
