Above: Snow Hill native Dr. Wayne Robinson informed readers of “The Smithville Review” in 1957 that he painted the mule on Allen Bluff in 1906. His inspiration, he said, came from this comic-strip mule named Maud.

Front: Jimmy Mullinax holds a wooden box that once held Brown’s Mule Tobacco. Could this tobacco brand have served as inspiration for the mule image on a Tennessee cliff?
