Cannon County Sheriff's Office

Mconnico Maxwell was arrested on multiple drug charges and possession of a weapon following a traffic stop on Lockes Creek Road.

Deputy Tommy Barker received a report about a green SUV that had run off the roadway.

"Around the 3700 block of Lockes Creek Road I observed a green KIA Soul riding on the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle had clumps of grass hanging off the wheels and bumper," Barker reported.

The driver (Maxwell) told Barker he had dropped his phone and ran off the road when he reached over to pick it up. Barker then performed a field sobriety test on Maxwell, which he passed.

Maxwell consented to a search of his vehicle. A large set of digital scales was found in the front seat.

"I moved to the passenger rear floorboard where I found a quart mason jar with what appeared to be a green leafy substance inside and a loaded Keltec handgun," Barker said.

Two more containers containing what was believed to be marijuana were discovered along with drug paraphernalia including hemostats, scissors and rolling papers, the deputy reported.

Maxwell was taken into custody and charged with simple possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and with possession with intent to sell Schedule VI drugs (marijuana).
