Mailbox Vandalism

Cannon County deputies investigated ongoing vandalism to mailboxes on Sunny Slope Road. Officer T. Holland reported four mailboxes had been damaged including one which had been knocked completely off its wooden post possibly by a baseball bat. Another subject reported their mailbox had been shot at as well as hit by a blunt object.

Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them). Violators can be fined up to $250,000, or imprisoned for up to three years, for each act of vandalism.

Thefts

A Dewalt compressor was stolen from a home on Simpson Road.

Several hand tools were stolen from a toolbox on the back of a truck. Taken were two Dewalt impact drivers, chargers and battery units, a hammer drill, standard saw, a sawsall, circular saw, flashlight and socket set.

A Stihl weed eater, valued at $400, was reported stolen.

Fire Department Radio Recovered

A missing Short Mountain Fire Department radio was recovered during a traffic stop near the intersection of Old Woodbury Road and Mt Herman Road in Rutherford County. Sgt. Nunley of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department said he had responded to a "road rage" incident and observed the radio along with its charger. Jonathan Scurlock of Short Mountain Fire responded to the call and took custody of the radio.

Domestic Disturbance

Vicky Sue Currier, 56, of Auburntown, was charged with simple assault and destruction of property following an incident in the parking lot of Auburn Hills Church of Christ. A hearing is set for September 6 in General Sessions Court.


Reckless Driver - DUI

William David Dawson, 57, of Bradyville, was charged with DUI following a report of reckless driving. A hearing is set for November 4 in General Sessions Court.

Possession With Intent

Jason Wayne Arnold was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs (Oxycontin and suboxane) with intent to resale by Chief Lowell Womack. A hearing is set for August 9 in General Sessions Court.

Driving On Revoked

Brian A. Stafford was charged with driving on a revoked license by Patrolman Jimmy Haynes. A hearing is set for August 9 in General Sessions Court.

John Virgil Lee Hill was charged with driving on a revoked license by Patrolman Brent Brock. A hearing is set for September 13 in General Sessions Court.

Mary Elizabeth Rogers was charged with driving on a revoked license by Chief Lowell Womack. A hearing is set for August 9 in General Sessions Court.

DUI, First Offense

James Bryan Smith was charged with DUI, first offense, by Patrolman John House. A hearing is set for September 13 in General Sessions Court.

Public Intoxication, Theft

Richard Hodge was charged with public intoxication, theft for stealing multiple items at Piggy Wiggly and theft of an oxygen tank from Hometown Respiratory by Patrolman Chris Bell. A hearing is set for August 9 in General Sessions Court.
