Visitors and family members from across the Southeast gathered to celebrate the 104th birthday of Ruby King.

The Thursday (Sept. 24) event was held at Woodbury Health and Rehabilitation Center and included presentations from Woodbury Mayor Harold Patrick and Cannon County Executive Mike Gannon.

Among the relatives attending the party were Roy and Pat Fanning, Sherry Hughes, Hilda King Vaughan and Cherrie Lynn Reed.

Miss Ruby was all smiles for most of the event until County Executive Gannon proclaimed Sept. 24 "Ruby King Day" for all of Cannon County. That moved her to tears.

Born near Sycamore, she is a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. She has outlived her immediate family. Her husband, Seldon, passed away in 1989 after 61 years of marriage. Their only child, Winfred, died in 1962.
