Mike Jones submitted the following press release to the Courier on Monday, June 4:

After five years as principal of Cannon County High School, Mike Jones will retire this month. Jones started his teaching career in Cannon County and was thrilled with the opportunity to serve the community once again, this time as principal. Throughout his course as an educator, Jones worked in Cannon, Rutherford, and Williamson Counties serving not only as an educator but coach in each district.

"My time at Cannon County was spent focusing on the students, teachers, and staff to make Cannon County High School a better school. As I enter retirement, I am proud of the things I have been able to accomplish during my five years as principal and wish CCHS and the school system continual progress," said retiring principal Jones, a member of the Cannon County community.

During his time at CCHS, Jones encouraged writing within the disciplines and especially the English Language Arts curriculum which brought positive growth to testing scores. He also focused on making the outdoor sporting facilities a more inviting place for parents and visitors where he along with the inmates and support of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department built the restroom amenities.

"One thing I am most proud of are the students in one of our CTE classes that were involved in the opening of the Hub Store," Jones said. "The students prepared a room in the building in order to sell drinks, snacks, and goods to the student body. It has been a joy to see what they have accomplished since the store has opened."

Jones would like to thank Barbara Parker for the opportunity to come back to where he started and serve the community of Cannon County. He would also like to thank the faculty and staff of CCHS for their dedication and hard work they provide each day for the students. In his retirement, Jones looks forward to spending time with his family, on his farm in Auburntown, and cheering on his alma mater, the MTSU Blue Raiders. He also will continue working as a real estate agent and auctioneer with Clark Maples Realty and Auction in Murfreesboro.
