Melba Lewis Chancy



Melba Lewis Chancy, 66, died July 19, 2011 at her home in Woodbury following an extended illness.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Melba was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired Wal-Mart Associate.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years,  James Chancy of Woodbury; daughter & son-in-law,  Tammy and Jeff Smith of Woodbury; granddaughters, Alison and Abbey Smith of Woodbury; sisters,  Jean (Rodger) Russell of White Plains, KY., Janet (Larry) Dame of White Plains, KY, Wandie (Willie) Sneed of Madisonville, KY., Becky (Dennis) Oliver of Morganfield, KY' brothers: Billy Ray Lewis of Sunberry, PA., Tommy & Ricky Lewis both of Whistler, Al; aunts and uncles, Dottie (Jim) Jones, Dee (Betty) Smith, Helen Curtis & Ruth Zachos.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Washington Lewis and Edith Smith Caylor.

Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home at 12 Noon Thursday, July 21 , 2011. with Minister Dennis Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1:00 pm till 9:00 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

She was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society and in the past two years, she had raised over $20,000.  In lieu of flowers, at her request, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life to her team, MELBA’S MAVERICKS c/o Woodbury Funeral Home.
