Melba (Fuller) Barton



Mrs. Melba (Fuller) Barton, 89, of Readyville died Nov. 5, 2010. She was born in Cannon County on June 20, 1921. Her parents were the late Landon Fuller and Lydia (Cook) Fuller. She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Barton and her brother, Robert S. Fuller.

Survivors include three sons, Ray & Peggy Barton, Jack & Phyllis Barton and Jimmy & Shelia Barton all of Readyville; daughter, Cynthia Barton of Nashville; sisters, Betty Melton of Nashville and Patricia Wimberly of Readyville; six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren & three step-great grandchildren also survived by a sister-in-law, Norma Fuller of Woodbury.

She was a member of the New Hope Church of Christ. A graduate of Central High School in the Class of 1939. Then she went on to become a Registered Nurse with the Good Samaritian Hospital and Stones River Hospital for over 30 years. Fishing with her grandchildren was a favorite pass time. She also enjoyed bird watching, quilting and sewing. Flower gardening was a cherished hobby for her. She had won several blue ribbons for her iris' and the Queen's Table award. There had even been a tour bus brought to see the beautiful flower garden at her home.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held graveside in Riverside Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at 2 PM. Howard Knox, Jr. will officiate and interment will follow. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Easter Seals Foundation.
