May 22: Help Managing Arthritis

Do you suffer from arthritis or fibromyalgia? UT Extension is offering a class to help you manage their impact on your life.

Studies conducted at the Stanford University Arthritis Center in California show that people with arthritis or fibromyalgia who have completed Arthritis Foundation classes experience less pain, tend to exercise and relax more, and have more overall knowledge about arthritis.

Carla Bush, UT Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent in Cannon County has been trained to implement this beneficial program in our community. The Arthritis Self-Help Course will be offered in Woodbury beginning in May.

Some of the topics covered include: managing your arthritis and what you can do to reduce the pain, exercise and fitness, depression and fatigue, feelings and communication, working with your doctor, medications and alternative medicines.

The dates for the ASHC are Tuesdays, beginning May 22 and ending June 26 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Cannon County Senior Citizens Center in Woodbury. You do NOT have to be a senior citizen to participate in the class.

The cost for the class is $10, which includes the book recommended by the Arthritis Foundation entitled, “The Arthritis Helpbook” and light refreshments. The course will be free to Family and Community Education (FCE) Club members. Class size is limited so call Carla Bush at the UT Extension, Cannon County Office today to register, 615-563-2554.
