Mattie Elizabeth Hamby, 89, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 23, 2009. A native of Cannon County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Wilcher Underwood.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Kenneth Hale and Al McGill officiating. Pallbearers will be Chuck Barrett, Jim Lindquist, Charlie Crawford, Robert Arrington, Alan Hasty, and David Cooper. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamby is survived by daughter, Shirley Jennings of Smyrna, a special friend, David Cooper; daughter, Evelyn (Bobby) Reeves of Murfreesboro; sons, Bill (Gloria) Young of Lascassas, Ray (Barbara) Vanatta of North Lauderdale, FL., and sister, Tennie Keyt. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sebrina (Robert) Arrington, Billy (Erin) Mahaffa, Tina (Teddy) Raney, Jeff Young, Wendy Young, and eight great grandchildren, Matthew Arrington, Zach Mahaffa, Lynn Mahaffa, Justin Baucom, J.R. Baucom, Austin Raney, Dillon Raney, and Scott Raney.

Mrs. Hamby is preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Hamby; sister, Lucille Harris; brothers, Mark Underwood, Carl Underwood, and a great grandchild, Logan Mahaffa.

Mrs. Hamby was a member Gethsemane House of Prayer.
