Mar. 13: Cannon County Historical Society Meeting

The Cannon County Historical Society will meet Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Adams Memorial Library, in the basement meeting room.

The program will be a “Tribute and Memorial to Beecher Bowen and his wife Ruby.” For many years they were respected and beloved teachers with the Cannon County Schools.

Charlie and Dell Harrell will “head-up” the presentation. Dell, a niece of Mr. Bowen wrote the excellent forward to the book, “Poetry of Beecher Bowen,” a recent publication by the “Friends of the Library.” Copies of the book will be available at the meeting.

Janet Duggin Barnes will display the Geedville quilt which has been in her family since 1939-40. The quilt has much historical interest.

Charles Bowman will share his memories of Mr. Bowen and Ms. Ruby, the Geedville Community and Woodland School.

Raymond Cooper, a former student and admirer of Mr. Bowen, will share his memories and appreciation.

Anyone else will be encouraged and welcome to also share memories and comments.

The Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and refreshments. Please brings your favorites and enjoy the fellowship.

The program will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
