Man Killed In Fall From Bluff

A Chattanooga man who owns property in Cannon County which borders the DeKalb County line sustained fatal injuries Thursday afternoon (April 12) following a fall from a bluff in the Johnson Town Road area.

According to emergency workers at the scene the victim, reported to be Myron Dale Tidwell, fell about 12-15 feet in an area close to English Falls.

Tidwell, whose age was reported as 60, had recently purchased the property, officials said. He was in the process of marking the boundary of the property along with his girlfriend when the accident occurred around 1 p.m.

Official are unsure at this time whether the accident occurred in Cannon or DeKalb County, as the property borders the line near the Pea Ridge Road area.

“He (Tidwell) was putting orange flags on trees to mark the area and apparently slipped off a bluff and fell,” a rescue worker stated.

Tidwell was still alive when rescue workers reached him but died before he could be transported out of the area. Vanderbilt LifeFlight was called and was stationed in a field next to Short Mountain School. However, Tidwell’s body was taken from the scene by DeKalb County EMS and taken to DeKalb County Hospital.

Local emergency personnel who responded to the accident were the Cannon County Rescue Squad, CannonCounty EMS, Cannon County EMA, Short Mountain VFD, East Side VFD, Mooretown VFD and the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department.
