Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Parsley received a call from Cannon County Dispatch on June 27 in reference to an attempt to locate a dirt track racing car for Murfreesboro City Police that had been stolen.

Parsley was advised that if the car was located and a subject by the name of Kelvin McCrary was present to advise him that Murfreesboro City Police needed the car returned that night or that he (McCrary) could face criminal charges.

Parsley went to 280 Cactus Trail, Readyville, and on arrival was greeted in the driveway by McCrary, wo had a loaded pistol in his hand. Deputy Brandon Mims took the pistol from McCrary and unloaded it and secured the scene.

The deputies and McCrary then went to the back of the house, where the car was located. McCrary was advised of his options — turn the car over, or be arrested. McCrary stated that a tow truck could come to get the vehicle. Parsley observed that the car was in several pieces.

While waiting for the tow truck, McCrary became upset at the situation and stated that the Smyrna Police Dept. had advised him that the situation was a civil matter and no one could prove ownership of the car. Parsley advised McCrary several times that the vehicle was reported stolen from Murfreesboro City and they were wanting it returned.

McCrary continued to argue the matter and became more irate. Parsley advised him to control his outbursts or he would be arrested for disorderly conduct.

Pelham's Wrecker Service arrived and began loading the vehicle, at which time McCrary started questioning the tow truck driver about the matter. The driver advised that when law enforcement contacts him for a pickup he has a duty to retrieve the vehicle.

McCrary began calling the Smyrna Police Dept. and Rutherford County Sheriff's Department. Pelham's Wrecker Service loaded the vehicle, and as the wrecker and deputy were leaving the property Parsley overheard McCrary state that he would seek criminal charges against him (Parsley) for theft.

Pelham's transported the vehicle to Rutherford County.

Theft From Building

When Larry Murray of 8565 Auburntown Rd., Woodbury, went to Mexico for a vacation on June 20 he had a John Deere riding mower and a Harley Davidson motorcycle in his garage.

Murray returned on June 26, and when he went to his garage on June 27, he found both the motorcycle and mower missing.

He reported the theft to the Cannon County Sheriff's Office, and Deputy Steve McMillen responded to the call. Murray told McMillen that when he left on vacation the garage door was shut, but not locked.

The mower was valued at $2,500 and the motorcycle $18,000. McMillen faxed a copy of his report to the Cannon County 911 Center to be entered into NCIC.

Dog Bites Boy, Owner Cited

Deputy Brandon Mims responded to a call from Stones River Hospital on June 26 of a report dog bit. Upon arrival he spoke with Lynnette Buchanan and her son, Dylan Miller, who said Dylan was walking home to 104 Hollow Springs, Woodbury, when he was attacked by a dog from 64 Hollow Springs Road.

During the course of the investigation Mims learned from the dog's owner, Merle Johnson of 64 Hollow Springs Rd., that he had taken the dog off it's chain while he was attempting to get the chain untangled from around a tree. Johnson said that just in a split second the dog took off running after Miller and bit him.

Mims observed the dog at Johnson's residence and noted it to be playful and showing no signs of aggression. However, due to the fact Johnson did not have papers showing whether the dog had an up-to-date rabies vaccination, it had to be taken to Dr. Gayle Tate's for quarantine.

Miller received 10 stitches to the wound from the dog bite. Johnson was written a citation for dogs at large.

Theft From Motor Vehicle

Deputy Steve McMillan was dispatched to Old Quarry Road on June 22 for a report of theft. On arrival he spoke with Gordon Thomas Jr., who stated that he and his work crew parked their Pike Electric service trucks on the property on June 17 at 1600 hours. Thomas said when his crew came to work on June 22 they found numerous amounts of tools missing from the trucks.

Among the items missing were metal grips, rolls of copper, can hooks, channel locks, ratchet wrenches, pop tools, with a total value estimated in excess of $3000.

McMillen visited Pelham's Auto Salvage, Ivy Bluff Auto Salvage and Shotgun County Pawn to see if anyone had tried to sell the items at those places, but all said no one had.

Vandalism

Deputy Brandon Gullett responded to a report of a break-in that had already occurred on June 24 at 3825 Hollow Springs Rd. He was met there by Melissa Pulette Scott, who stated that her door had been kicked in. Scott said that nothing had been taken from the residence. Scott said she did not know who might have kicked in the door. Damage was estimated at $500.

Neighbor Dispute

For the second time in five days sheriff's deputies were called on June 26 to mediate a dispute between neighbors Mechelle Sullivan, 807 Geedsville Rd., Bradyville, and Mark Seybold, 855 Geedsville.

Deputy Steve McMillen first spoke with Sullivan, who stated that Seybold had pulled up some trees on her property. She also stated that Seybold was out of the property line of the easement he has to the land between, his shop and 775 Geedsville Rd. Sullivan said Seybold was in the process of installing a field line on the property.

Sullivan then told McMillen she had planted 20 assorted nut trees, pecan and walnut, but that Seybold had pulled them up. She added that there were 15 pine trees on the property that had been destroyed, valued at $20 each. Sullivan stated she feels threatened by Seybold over the land issue.

McMillen advised Sullivan, once again, that the land issue was a civil matter and she would need to speak with a lawyer.

After taking the statement from Sullivan, McMillen spoke with Seybold, wo stated that if the trees were near the field line, the root system would contaminate it. Seybold also said he did pull up Sullivan's trees in order to install the field line. He added that his field line would be installed 40 to 50 feet onto the property.

McMillen also advised Seybold, again, to seek the advise of a lawyer regarding the civil issue.

Warrants Served:

• Deputy Gary T. Overcast served a warrant on Ryan L. Grayson of 168 Macon Rd., Woodbury, for child support on June 10.

• Deputy Gary T. Overcast served a warrant on Michelle Renee Bryant, 5241 Brig Lane, Knoxville, for Violation of Probation on June 25.

• Deputy Gary T. Overcast served a warrant on Christopher Charles Camp, 680 Sunny Slope Rd., Woodbury, for phone harassment on June 29.

• On Wednesday, June 23 a violation of probation warrant was served on Chase Pelham in the booking room of the Cannon County Jail at 16:35 by Corrections Officer Mark Thomas. This occurred without incident.
