Man Charged With Aggravated Rape

A Rutherford County man has been charged with aggravated rape by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.

Clint Andrew Batey, 42, who has listed addresses in Murfreesboro and Smyrna, was arrested on June 11 by CCSO Chief Investigator Charlie Wilder.

The affidavit of complaint filed in Cannon County General Sessions Court on June 14 states in part:

"On or about 11 June 2010 the defendant (Batey) did take (the victim), a resident of Cannon County, to a location on Jim Town Road. Jim Town Road is in Cannon County, Tennessee.

"While at this location, the defendant grabbed the victim by the hair and pulled her from his car and forced her to the trunk area. The defendant then choked the victim until she became nearly unconscious."

It was at this point the alleged rape occurred.

"(Wilder) interviewed the victim and saw that she had significant bruising on her throat that appeared consistent with fingers marks left from being choked. The victim submitted to a rape kit at Stones River Hospital and told other officers about her assault.

"(Wilder) interviewed a witness who spoke to and saw the victim after the attack. The victim gave the same account to him. This did occur in Cannon County, Tennessee."

Bond for Batey was set at $400,000. He is being held in the Cannon County Jail. His initial court appearance has been scheduled for July 6.
