Lost Smack, Toolbox Switcheroo, Mailbox Shooting Highlight Crime Report



Following are the latest arrest and incident reports as recorded by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department. Readers are advised that an allegation or report of a crime does not necessarily constitute a crime, or even that one took place. All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

11.25.2009 — Mark Thomas served a warrant on Keith D. Gibson for violation of probation without incident in the booking room of the CCSO.

11.27.2009 — Marijo Martinez served a warrant on Janet Brown for failure to appear without incident in the booking room of the CCSO.

11.28.2009 — An investigation was launched into the quality of care that Todd Baxter was giving his horses after a neighbor complained of an unburied dead mare whose smell was noticeable. Mr. Baxter responded and promptly buried the horse. Det. Wilder, Dep. Young, Bruce Steelman, and Veterinarian Dr. Tate participated in the investigation and it was eventually concluded that Mr. Baxter was taking adequate care of his horses.

11.30.2009 — Deputy Brandon Mimms was dispatched to Jason Cook's home for an unwanted guest where Katherine and Danielle Goodman refused to leave after Vernon Cook asked them to. Vernon had been arguing with Katherine about her taking his medication. Since neither girl received mail at the residence, Mimms advised them to leave for the night. They had nowhere to go so Jason Cook put them up at the Cannon Inn for two nights.

11.30.2009 — Mark Thomas served a warrant on James B. Lynch for violation of probation without incident in the booking room of the CCSO.

12.1.2009 — Dep. Bryson followed up with Mrs. Barrett in the case of the contested 1991 Dodge Caravan but was unable to contact her.

12.1.2009 — Mr. Tate followed up a report of possible stolen horses. A man had called and found the horses on a hillside where they were recovered.

12.1.2009 — Michael Lowery filed a report regarding some jewelry that had been stolen and pawned, allegedly by his girlfriend, Danielle Goodman.

12.1.2009 — After replacing and reinforcing his previously damaged mailbox, vandals shot Wiley Adamson current mailbox with a shotgun. The mailbox was destroyed. This occurred some time between 1730 and 2015 on 11.30.2009.

12.2.2009 — Toni Henderson reported that someone had backed into her Chrystler 300 at the Stones River Hospital, causing over $400 in damage.

12.2.2009 — Deputy Anthony Young took a report from Arthur Bensmiller. Someone had taken a black box full of Craftsman sockets from his residence but left another tool box. He thought it happened on 12.1.2009 but was not sure who might have taken it.

12.2.2009 — Carsie Sissom reported that someone had broken open the Gilley Hill Methodist Church's AC unit and stolen the controller board. Repairs cost nearly $650.

12.3.2009 — Amy Cox requested assistance in retrieving some property that was being held by Jacky Greene for owed rent. Dep. Young advised Greene that it was a civil matter and he relinquished Ms. Cox's things.

12.4.2009 — Dep. James R. Bryson contacted Holly Thrasher who was seeking advice about a horse she had sold to Gene Howland. She sold the horse "Smack" to Mr. Howland and was understandably concerned about the animal's well-being. Dep. Bryson put her in contact with the local 4-H office.

12.4.2009 — A lockbox used to store medicine was stolen from Phillip Underwood at his 769 Jimtown Rd. residence. The neighbor recalled a small red car had come to the home whole Mr. Underwood was gone. No prints were found.

12.4.2009 — Dep. James R. Bryson was dispatched to 675 Judge Purser Rd. where Johnathan Buck reported that a reckless driver had been doing doughnuts, revving his engine, etc. several times in the last few days on the property. Mr. Buck had confronted the driver and was met with foul language.

12.4.2009 — Ms. Beckwith reported that two non-aggressive but troublesome dogs were at large in her neighborhood. She reported that the dogs belong to Zach Stevens of 41 E Circle Drive, who works in Alabama and is often away. The dogs had also gotten into other people's things and torn them up. Responding officer informed Ms. Beckwith they would have to get in touch with Mr. Stevens before taking further action.

12.4.2009 — Elvis Denton Parker was charged with vandalism, criminal trespass, and DUI.

12.5.2009 — Deputy Patrick Fann responded to a fire at Parsley's Market, where Jefferey Estes spotted their cardboard recycling trailer engulfed in flames. The Midway FD had already put out the fire and the trailer was undamaged. No solid evidence was found but Mr. Estes reported seeing a red 1980's Oldsmobile Cutlass full of what looked like four boys circle the parking lot and then head toward Murfreesboro.

12.5.2009 — Dennis Watts mistook a troubled motorist for an intruder and called the police. Casey Ingram was actually just looking for a phone to call for help.

12.6.2009 — Michael Barrett's mini barn caught fire in the night. WFD responded quickly.
