Lloyd Wayron Campbell, age 83, of Woodbury, passed away December 21, 2012 due to complications following heart surgery in March.

A native and longtime resident of Cannon Co., he rose from a depression-era childhood of shooting lizards off a split rail fence with a slingshot to the position of Vice President of Colonial Corp of America. While with Colonial, he opened 28 sewing operations in small towns from Kentucky to Florida. In 1980, he resigned to operate two manufacturing factories of his own. He often said, "lint is in my blood," and evidently so was the soil of Cannon County. Eventually he retired to run a farm on the land previously owned by his parents, In retirement he also became a published author with The Tennpennys of Cannon County, Tennessee an almost 700-page book on genealogy, one of his lifetime pursuits.

In addition to a strong work ethic and an always expanding appreciation for his family, Lloyd was also devoted to the things of God. he served as Sunday school teacher at Sanders Fork Baptist Church for more than 60 years, and as deacon there for much of that time. He was instrumental in constructing the wall outside the church, displaying limestone and fossils from the area.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, Howard E. Campbell; his mother, Gracie Tenpenny Campbell; and his brother, Virgil Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Campbell; son, Stanton Campbell; daughter Brenda Campbell Royal; three grandchildren, Julie (Wyatt) Williams, Emily Royal and Ethan Minor; and two great grandchildren, Fischer Williams and Sutton Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm, December 23, 2012 at Sanders Fork Baptist Church with Marvin Davenport and Joe D. Davenport officiating. Visitation will be held December 22 from 2 pm until 8 pm at Woodbury Funeral Home. Burial will be at Reed Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the genealogy wing of Adams Library in Woodbury.
