Longtime TDA Senior Livestock Specialist Nelson Owen to retire
Tennessee Department of Agriculture Senior Livestock Specialist Nelson Owen is retiring after 43 years of service to the Tennessee Cattle Industry. Nelson and his team are responsible for gathering cattle sale data at markets as well as providing grading services for livestock markets across the state providing a uniform standard for judging cattle across Tennessee. Nelson and his team also held numerous educational programs where they demonstrated to cattle producers what made one calf grade better than another.


Forage Field Day Planned for April 21st
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Beef and Forage Field Day to be held at Jimmy Herndon's Farm in Smithville. We plan to get underway around 9:00 A.M. Topics to be discussed are Weed Control, Hay Storage and Barn Construction, Purchasing Herd Bulls to Match Herd Genetics and Sprayer Calibration.
