Literary and wine appreciation meets

The Literary and Wine Appreciation Society marches into fall with a pre-Halloween meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 28, at 2:30 p.m.  Costumes are optional but if a member wishes to wear one it will only add to the usual festivities.

The October meeting will be held at a new locale which is 945 Porterfield Road.  The novel to be discussed, or ignored as the case may be, is Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, a debut novel and New York Times best seller, by Beth Hoffman.

Described as Steel Magnolias meets The Help, this Southern coming of age novel follows CeeCee from Ohio to Georgia.  After her psychotic mother is killed by an ice cream truck CeeCee is sent to live with an eccentric aunt.  CeeCee's life is flavored by her new guardian's friends as they help her along the path to adulthood.
Some reviews said the book had great potential for narrative drama and tension but didn't live up to expectations.  Read it and judge for yourself, then come and let the L and W Appreciation Society know what you think.

While this book is discussed the wine selection to be tasted and judged will be American wines with pretty labels.  A wine reviewer opined that wineries appeared to be in a contest to create the most exciting and artistic label because many wine enthusiasts purchased wine by the look of the label and not by the taste of the wine.  Our little group will be the judge of that.

Does a pretty label a fine wine make?  If you've been waiting for the right book and the right wine to give the Literary and Wine Appreciation Society a try, this could be your month.  Don't be shy.  Program your GPS ap for 945 Porterfield Road  (Readyville), on Sunday, October 28, and join us at 2:30 p.m. for a lively discussion and lots of laughs.
