Lions shock Page, 3-2

Dalton Bell pitched a complete-game and Cannon County rallied to stun Page, 3-2, in the Tennessee Walking Horse Classic Friday (4/19).

The Lions (7-18-1) scored the winning run in the fifth when Jared Judkins was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on an error.

Page (14-5) led 2-0 through two innings but the Lions tied it, 2-2, when Nick Vassar and Brent Duggin delivered RBI singles in the fourth.

Bell was outstanding on the mound.

He improved to 3-2 and didn’t allow a run after the second inning. Bell has allowed three runs or less in six of his seven starts.

“Dalton has been a bulldog on the mound this season,” Lions coach Tony Stinnett said. “He has three wins and two no-decisions. He has given his team a chance to win every start and that’s all you can ask of a starter. Dalton has stepped up as a pitcher this season.”

The Lions were 1-2-1 in the tournament with the Page win being their only triumph. They tied Cascade 4-4 and lost to Eagleville (7-6) and Huntland (10-2).

“The frustrating part is we had a chance to win three of the four games,” Stinnett said. “We blew late-inning leads against Cascade and Eagleville.”

The Lions also dropped a pair of District 8-AA games when they fell to rival DeKalb County earlier in the week. Cannon County lost 3-1 Monday and 8-0 Tuesday.

Cannon County has a bye week in District 8-AA action this week before closing the regular season against Upperman April 29 and 30.

The District 8-AA Tournament begins May 2. The site is yet to be determined.
