Lions Shock Owls, Roar Into Playoffs

COOKEVILLE — Cannon County's football Lions will be going to the TSSAA State Playoffs for the first time since 1995.

The Lions upset Smith County 32-10 here Thursday night, roaring back from a 10-0 deficit to secure their first win over the Owls since 1995.

The victory improved the Lions record to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in District 8-AA. They have one regular season game remaining, at home in two weeks against Upperman.

Cannon County's stellar defense recorded five turnovers to spark the winning effort agsinst Smith County, including two interceptions by Andrew Woodin.
