Lions football team gears up for start of preseason drills

With the two week mandated TSSAA dead period over, the Cannon County Lions football team got back to the practice field to continue conditioning and getting ready for the season opener just a little over a month away.

Last Wednesday the team welcomed Community School of Unionville to the field for their first of three scheduled 7-on-7 passing games. The game was more of a scrimmage in that no score was kept and the rules were altered a little to keep teams on the offense a little more until they got the ball in the end zone.

It was an opportunity to see how the passing game would react being defended by players from another school.

The Lions showed they have a lot to work on as far as timing and getting the ball where it needs to be but they did make some pretty good plays throughout the afternoon. Cort Litchford, who is expected to have a huge senior year defensively, in the secondary made a spectacular interception in the competition as well as making a few catches on offense.
