The Lionettes came out ready to play dominating both ends of the floor as they jumped out to a 28-4 lead in the first quarter on their way to a 77-28 district win.
Cannon scored the first 8 points of the quarter behind a balanced scoring attack. The lead was extended to 15-2 at the 2:26 mark. The Lionettes finished the quarter hitting four 3’s, with Emily Sissom hitting 3 for 3, and forcing 10 turnovers ending the first quarter with a 28-4 first quarter lead.
The Lionettes continued their torrid shooting into the second quarter hitting 75% from the field. Lindsey Reed and Taylor King led the Lionettes in scoring with 7 points each in the quarter. The Cannon defense forced another 11 turnovers as they stretched their lead to 52-10 at the half.
Cannon started the second half with 11 straight points with Sissom hitting two 3’s. The Lionettes were able to play all of their players in the second half with the exception of Erica Melton, who hyper-extended her knee in the second quarter.
With Cannon’s starters on the bench, and the Dragonettes’ fire extinguished, the Lionettes coasted to a 77-28 victory. The Lionettes improved their record to 7-0, 1-0 district.

• After Justin Davenport got the scoring started for the Lions with a quick 2-point basket, Colin Jones started a 3-point shooting parade as the Lions pulled out their first district win of the season, 72-52, over the York Dragons.
The Lions took a 8-4 lead in the first quarter, but a determined Dragon team kept finding ways to keep the score close, despite turning the ball over 10 times in the quarter. The Lions took a 16-10 lead on a Davenport basket with 8-seconds left in the first quarter.
Cannon opened the second quarter with a Jones’ 3-point basket, eventually stretching their lead to 24-15, with 5:58 left in the quarter. York went on a 7-2 run to close the score to 28-27 with 1:48 remaining. On York’s next possession, the Dragons scored 3-points the old-fashioned way, with a basket and a foul shot, to take a 32-31 lead with 7-seconds showing on the clock. The Lions quickly moved the ball down the court. Jared Nave fired a 3-point shot with 2-seconds left in the quarter, giving Cannon a 34-32 lead at the half.
After a rousing half time speech, the Lions played their best quarter of the game, hitting 60% of their shots and scoring 24 points. Nave had the hot hand in the quarter scoring 7 points, followed by Andrew Woodin and Davenport with 5 each.
Taking a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, the Lion defense stepped up holding the Dragons to 15% shooting from the field. Cody Ruehlen started the fourth quarter scoring two 3’s.
Cannon pulled away to a 72-52 final score as they nabbed their first district win.
